I did, and I called them earlier, was told I will get my order in 3 weeks. But just now I got an email, telling me that they cannot locate a typeset for me. This is really weird. I smell something fishy. My guess is that they found out afterwards, the market price for the Typeset is doubled, or even tripled. So they pulled back a lot what they have sold. After all, they raised $100 RIGHT after Perth Mint started to sell the coin. They are the only one who did this, as far as I know. Other dealers all sell their limited quantity the same price as Perth Mint. But nothing I can do. I guess the only thing I can do is to pay 100% more, get a 1 oz Dragon coin off the Ebay. SUXS!
Downies will profit maximise at any oppertunity.. not the most generous retail shop in the world. Ive noticed alot of coin shop owners are highly dis-ingenuious.. my advice is to find good people in good shops and reward them with your business. As always: let the buyer beware.. show your gratitude or lack there of by spending your fiat with those that deserve the business So are you going to put your trust in Downies again? 1for1
That's really not a good business ethic. I must say I've been mostly disappointed with the physical coin shop dealers (in Melbourne). I went to Peter Stritch coins the other day and was turned off by their excessive premium markups on the coins I wanted. They wanted $400 for the 1 oz silver proof dragon! Even eBay and the traders here are not selling at that price.
In their defence, I picked up my 1oz proof Dragon and three coin proof Dragon set from Downies the beginning of last week, which were sold to me at the recommended retail price.
I ordered a 1oz dragon proof from Downies... They told me I was one of the first to order so was guaranteed to get one. Surprise surprise, 3 weeks later - "Sorry, we don't have one for you". Seemed VERY fishy to me.
+1 I had never dealt with Downies before, but I ordered a 1oz Dragon proof from them on launch day and they delivered to me at RRP without issue.
Playing offence but what about those people that didn't order from PM because they had an order with Downies?
I put in an order with Downies for typesets as they appeared to be available on their site, entered all my credit card details, but also got an email this morning saying unavailable. I am hoping that my Perth Mint one will be OK but I haven't heard a word from the Perth Mint.
Is it that hard to have a certain number available, and deduct 1 after each purchase until something is sold out? A policy of 'take all orders' and reject the ones we want later seems ridiculous at best
Just checked my account, the Perth Mint have deducted the money so looks like a got the typeset, gilded etc OK.
+1 money has been deducted. Considering the proof is selling on ebay for $400, its a good buy just for the proof in the set! I hope the proof is a good strike though, bit concerned with a few members indicated that the proof strikes are weak.
