    Hello all
i know that I am going to get a stack of answers that primarily relate to self-interest but...
There comes a time in every man's life when he's got to do the right thing. The right thing by my family is to get a bathroom built. The current one is fine, small, from the 1920's basically and the only place where insects have free access to the inside of the house.
I need to stop talking about it and just get the bathroom built. My issue is that i've spent the saved bathroom money on metals. It is labeled as such but i don't want to sell so if i can construct it from the pay packet i'll be a happy chappy. But i doubt this will be possible.

If you had the choice, would you sell the silver or gold?
The silver has done me well. The gold... those damn 5g bars are still selling circa $250/bar the last time that i looked... and i'm guessing that 5g bars don't walk out the door like other forms of Au (and i'm kinda attached to the coins - damn it!).

    Any advice considered
    thanks

If you had the cash to spend on metals right now, which ones would you buy?

Considered going into debt (i.e. get a small personal loan)?

precious metals versus bathroom renovations .... its a moral dilemma .... time to get real ... really real .... there is no right or wrong answer ... just different experiences

If I could convince the wife I would sell move into nans place with her (free rent + hit to pride :( ), invest in PMs then buy back in 2-3 yrs. But as it is its bathroom renos for me as well :p

I would sell the gold over the silver as I believe silver has more potential

thanks but we've also got solar panels so the 2.5yrs free electricity that is coming up is too tempting. Unless i get a job on a mine in indochina i'm not going anywhere.

can you tell us exactly what the issues are about the current bathroom - can you address the insects issue for example - are you handy with the tools - what can you put up with and what you cant etc

I'd sell the wife, live with the old bathroom and buy more PM's.

When you're rich you can have 2 bathrooms and 2 wives.

That nonsense aside, why not a bit of both insted of all of one or the other?

GP - thanks, yep considered that but still buying both when i can, mainly silver though.

mpowerin - the insect i.e. cockroach, issue will die soon as winter is coming. It's just a horrible, cramped, mouldy (nil air circulation due to the small window/10ft ceiling combo) and 3 years ago i pinched the door to use some where else in the house. The doorway looks at the front door and we can't use that end of the house when guests are showering.

I could landscape your bathroom for bullion..

The insect would fit right in then :)

probably will be a bit of both. The new bathroom is currently a store room and the current dingy bathroom will now be a storeroom instead of an ensuite.

thanks for the advice all. Will try to get by without selling but will need to do some i guess.

Nope full scale. the new bathroom is an empty shell from when we did the extension 5yrs ago. The plumbing and electricity is there waiting but just raw weatherboards and chipboard floor. I'll demolish and current bathroom and replaster it myself as the store room.
