    Hi,

I recently bought some vintage silver bars.
    1) 1x 500g Harrington Bar
    2) 2x 508g Massey Garrett Bars
    3) 1x 500g FD Bar (???)
    4) 1x 10oz Type C Perth Mint bar

Thought I'd create a post to share them with the forum. I know very little about these bars, so any help on their age, mintage, value, history would be a great help.

I will upload photos of these bars in following posts.

A further update on this bar. Apparently it could be and most likely is a PJW (P.J.Williams) silver bar, hence the stamp on the back.
It was probably commissioned privately by some other mint, individual or organisation.... F*D ....My next step I think would be to contact PJW and see if they have any historical record that could shed some light on this bar's origin and purpose in life.

I will let you know how I go.

Is there anywhere that can give a proper appraisal for a vintage silver bar?

I would like to know how much this bar is worth :)

    Nice Harrington Altima.
Got the date stamp, low serial number and nice clear stamps.
I have no idea on value as I am only new to vintage bars, but I reckon that one is a good find.

Here it's 'worth' $810-825 or thereabouts (or in reality whatever anyone wants to pay for it lol!)

However I've sold similar Harringtons to intl clients for $1150-1250 in recent months

    Thanks for your advice.

I haven't seen another Harrington kilo bar with a serial number and date yet, which should add to the value of this bar.

Wished I knew more on the history of the bar.

you want to pay the mark up be my guest.

But silver is silver, the whole reason I get involved is because its supposed to be a store of value, and why is it as store of value, because its silver.
Now do I care if its antique silver or new silver: no not one iota.

We are not talking about Persian rugs here boys and girls, we are talking about an asset that is supposed to transcend the ages.

So anyone prepared to sell their vintage silver bars to me at a discount, yet I could be interested, otherwise move along nothing to see here.

I'm seriously considering censoring the words swirl, swirls and swirly on here  What was once posted as a joke has become a selling point.

I've seen forums where the admins were able to replace selected words posted automatically. I guessing it was designed to filter offensive words. Maybe that is a solution? Any time swirl, swirls, or swirly get posted you just autocorrect it to something else? Could make for some interesting threads.

I'm guessing this would result in all Chip's bars being swerl, swurl, swerls, swurls, swerly, swurly, swurley, swirley, swerli, swurli, swerlee, swurlee, or, even swhurl, swherls, swhirly... etc.

Is there an industry specific description for this style of bar?

Or a correct term for the way the silver has cooled etc?

    Asking sincerely.
