<vent> Purchased (or so I thought) a 2010 1oz Kookaburra on eBay. Been a few weeks since purchase, no coin yet, send the "where is my item" to the seller and get this response: ------------------- "Hi, we ran out of the 2010 Kookaburra's, did you receive the 2011 Kookaburra, our name on the back of the parcel is xxx. If the item has not arrived please wait a little longer as Aust post have been slow heading south, best regards" ------------------- So basically, the item I purchased at auction was not available, has been substituted without consultation, and has not arrived yet! </vent> Has anyone experienced this before?
Yes, I have similiar experience just a couple of months ago. Paid and confirmed my order, didn't hear from the seller for almost a month and one fine day he refunded my payment and say he cannot ship to my country, without consultation. Silver prices has shot up and those coins were selling for much more than what I paid for a month ago. And I found out to my dismay that a few large shipment has actually been sent to my country!
How absolutely rude of that seller on ebay, how do they know that you did not want that one specifically after all you should get what you have bid on. That is poor service indeed. They should have communicated at the very least and offered to not hold you to the contract. I would at the very least neutral that one and not buy again. How arrogant.
Yep, "Please just wait until the dispute resolution deadline is passed" They've already broken the deal...just like if you were a collector after coin 'x' and they sent you 'y' or if you asked for a white 'x' and they sent you a black 'x'!
Its why I ONLY ever pay via PayPal and fund PayPal via my credit card. I dont even bother with ebay/Paypal disputes, I just do a chargeback on my credit card. The seller loses the cost of the transaction plus a $15 chargeback fee. If people screw you round like that, just do a chargeback.
To have confidence in the integrity of a trader from any business, word of mouth is the best form of guidance to instill that confidence. TRUST IS GOLDEN
I won 17 walking libertys on eBay for $184, yay I though.. It's been nearly 4weeks.. Can't get a reply out of the seller. Grrr have lodged a dispute but my $ is held up for about 40 days. Must be a million stories like these. Might try the chargeback theory with the credit card. We should have an eBay horror thread.. Did get a subscription Johanna for $78 & a couple of the subscription square kook penneys for $70 & 71 last week but.. So it's not all bad. Gaz
I haven't really had much trouble with eBay, certainly nothing like what has been described in this thread. The worst thing to happen to me happened recently, the seller mistakenly sent my item (set of silver coins) to somebody else. Luckily he had another set he could send me but he was chasing up with the other guy to get the first set back. It was nice of the other guy to say nothing when he got my coins.
i only have ever bought from sellers with 100% good feedback and never had any problems...i even pay directly to thier bank account.
It's a common thing, It's happended to me a few times not just on ebay. I think they were honest mistakes. Genuinely not trying to send something different as they offered a refund.
Just write them a nice message back asking if it is ok with them if you substitute the $X amount that you paid for the item you thought you were purchasing for Say ..... 50% less than what you paid. See what they have to say, if it is ok for them to just substitute things willy nilly then they should not have a problem with it . Have some fun with it, Ask them if they can swap what they sent you for a Redback or 2007 kanga. ? Shouldnt be a problem really seeing as they are open to substitutions . Open a dispute immediately , you can still communicate and discuss things...do not let them charge you for postage if you choose to return the item seeing as they did not consult you , and then if you are not satisfied give them bad feedback if they deserve it .
For transactions over $250, PayPal/EBay requires sellers to be able to prove the item was shipped to the buyer's verified address, delivered and signed for at that address. If a seller cannot prove this, the buyer will win the claim. I've found PayPal's dispute specialist to be very helpful and easy to deal with. If you don't receive an item, or it isn't as described, they will help you.
It's crap like this which lead me to avoid ebay in general. Oh don't get me wrong, you can and do get the odd bargain or rare item there. You certainly can have a series of smooth transactions too. But it's the one moron in X which ruin the experience and either cost you time or fiat. I'm personally a big advocate of dealing with trusted dealers or over the counter transactions. Between the several over the counter options here in the city, along with the likes of Steve, Roo, CK and other SS trusted traders and even the odd web based store purchase, I personally cannot see the appeal in going the Ebay route for anything that you can commonly get otherwise. Just not worth the hassle IMHO.
I sold something on eBay and sent it off dutifully. The buyer didn't pay for it, and said they didn't buy it. They then ignored all efforts by me to contact them. So my last message was "Please contact me urgently as I intend to make a complaint with the Police" - Payment was in my account 1 hour later.
I'm predominantly a buyer and I like my items to be delivered quickly. I was selling off something that was just sitting around the house and I saw no harm in posting it off straight away. More fool me I guess
