IM sure you can but I just wana make sure im moving to melbourne and have 3kg of silver, can I take that on board with me? I know on some flights you only have 7kg limit thats cool. Im new to the game of stacking and I was tempted to sell a kilo to help fund my move and to buy a small fridge but opted not to, ill make do for the time being.

    thanks ..

3 kilos is small enough to put in your pockets.

I'm pretty sure the contents of your pockets don't count towards your baggage allowance.

Yeah, you'll need to take it out to go through the metal detectors but there aren't any actual restrictions on taking it with you on the plane (its not like its something dangerous like a firearm or a bottle of water :p )

I suggest putting the bars inside a bag or backpack. Putting 3 chunky metal ingot in your pocket might look suspicious to airport security who knows nothing about PM. The bars may be mistaken as C4 explosives, they kinda have similar shape.

If you got checked, just showed them the bars. No harm in a hunk of metals.

Personally I'd mail it to myself.

Air security is not rational and there is zero argument.

All you need is some dullard watching the conveyor belt to decide that your metal is a bomb and you'll have a giant inconvenience.

I try to have as little to do as possible with these trainee fascists and just go through smoothly and smiling even if my teeth are clenched.

Airline security is mostly a sheep training exercise and you don't want to look like a practice case for the trainers.

Have often come bag from Perth with kilo bars in my carry on. No problems whatsoever when scanned or shown. Safer than mailing.

    done it several times.

best way is stack the bars in your pockets before weigh in, then do as you see fit after the scanner

the xray guys always pull you up - they just want to make sure you don't have a stash of contraband inside the bar or amongst the coins

they love silver too btw, be nice :)

best to put all metals in a tray before the scanner

    they always open your bag

might be inconvenient if there is a dildo in there

I've never had problems having it in my carry on and don't think I have ever seen carry on be weighed...

or you could just trade it for an ounce or two of gold which will easily slip in a pocket or wallet. Far less fuss.

You can always trade it for Silver again on the other side if you so choose.

What about from America to Australia? Say 30x 1oz bars.

No worries at all. I do this all the time ... came back from the US quite recently with 3 tubes full of ASEs (so, 60 oz, thx APMEX) just sitting in my carry on backpack. No issues in any of the airports I went through ... they went through the scanner with the rest of the bag without question.

Customs shouldn't care either: for legal tender bullion coins it is completely legitimate to use the face value of the coin as its value, therefore you'll never get close to the duty free limit. And for bars, provided they are 999 fine, they are investment grade and similarly shouldn't attract any tax.

Geez, I carried a tube of silver coins from Florida to Australia - had private screenings at two airports as a result, they freaked when they saw a black tube on the X-Ray that couldn't be penetrated.

Goes to show you how arbitrary and ridiculous the airport security theatre is. I have passed through ORD, DFW, LAX, SYD, BNE and CBR with bullion (some quite a few times) and never been pulled up...maybe just lucky.
