And some of the smartest & wealthiest gold holders (eg. Doug Casey) recommend holding some at "home" (ie: outside of external vaults, safety boxes, etc), for precisely the reason you say. If you need to flee at a moments notice, you can.

If at home, not in a safe, and don't mention even in forums about storing it at home.

Hope this helps. Bank boxes have been raided by authorities in Great Britain and California. Store at home or near by. In case of home invasion leave some trinkets and important papers in a safe at home. Metal detectors can detect at 4 ft down maybe 6 ft today. Dig deep hole w/ post hole digger or power auger. Have precious metals in waterproof box(s) w/ silica and copper pennies inside. Attach rope to box and drop to bottom of hole. Box, not rope. Leave rope close to top so it is easy to dig up and pull out. Some ropes melt in the earth so maybe nylon rope? I think PVC is OK as long as the inner container is made of compatible material for silver. The PVC will keep moisture out. If you chose to store indoors then under a staircase? Remove forced air elect heater front plate and drop it underneath the heater. Do not store on outside wall as metal detector will find it, inside wall only. How about a hole in floor under the refridgerator covered w/ linoleum? Lots of hiding spots in homes and property. Just remember the depth ability of the new metal detectors. Finally, more than one hiding spot. If you gotta have a bank vault box then store a part of your metals there, not all. Spread them out in several locations and be sneaky! .................

It depends on how much bullion you have but at least have half a dozen storage places and spread them around in :eek:different spots. Tell someone about your hiding holes just in case you kick the bucket or the treasure could be lost forever.
