Yes I just received my Stacks & Bowers catalog (s) for this auction last week ... I was VERY impressed !!! Total of the three catalogs is about 600 pages of beautifully photograped coins ... I was extremely impressed with the descriptions and the photos are much better than any coin book I have ever seen !!! The quality is simply amazing !!! Looks like I may pick up another 1983 brass panda cheap !
You can have your brass pandas pfft Just keep your hands off my historical figures Time to save up money so I can actually afford to bid... Even if I don't buy anything it'll be awesome to install the software and listen to live bidding. ps. WOW http://stacksbowers.com/auctions/AuctionLot.aspx?LotID=329321 all yours comeaux
You will never have to worry about me bidding against you on these ! The majority of my money lately has been going into OMP gold pandas and a little on side projects such as random medals. We might also be able to pick up a few god of wealth at half price One thing to be observant of is that the final *realized* price on many of these coins is much higher than the "estimated" and some are lower. In any case will be very interesting !
Wow, they have some really nice coins! What's the buyers premium for lots purchased over the internet?
HMph we are doing the same thing bro LOL I bought some brass medals from Jay & a lot of OMP gold frac pandas... Definitely keeping an eye out on the God of Wealth but that's a lower priority for me, I want Historical figures hehe. Will be fun anyway.
Agree ... not buying much of anything silver lately. It's just my opinion and not sure how accurate but I feel in the long run the graded 5 coin gold panda sets will be on fire. Look how long it took those sets to sell on CCF two days ago ... literally just a few minutes ! About five minutes after the post went up I contacted the seller and both sets I wanted were gone !!! I could not believe how fast they sold ! Amazing as well as encouraging !
@RC Yep gone in a few minutes and everything else gone in a day or two. This isn't even cheap as 1oz Pandas these were full sets ranging between 4 and mid 5 figures. Just need to find the right target market to move expensive coins. If you had a $7000 5 coin 2000 dragon (Perth Mint) set today, you'd have so much trouble selling it (nobody wants to pay $7k for it) but I can't say the same for the Chinese coins @Lightsview I think 20% Buyers Premium for MCC, 15% for US coins/currency. I still haven't figured out how to use Stacks Bowers properly though.
Fishy the internet auctions are fun ... even if you don't buy anything you should register, login and watch ... the action is pretty fast and the coins move quickly !!! You would have some fun ! I saw the "estimates" and thought I was going to pick up some nice coins cheap ... well that didn't happen as I got smoked coin after coin
Yes the buyers fee is 20% (19.5%) on Modern Chinese Coins USD or HK Dollar is only form of payment. No credit cards, all invoices paid in USD or HK Dollars. If invoice is paid in HK dollars then buyer will be charged any additional fees for conversion
600+ Pages of free goodness ! As I previously stated although difficult to actually determine the quality of the coin photos by these pictures, they are very good for free books with high gloss pages. The coin details are not much but at least it identifies thousands of Chinese coins along with "estimated" prices. I would recommend these to all members as a good visual reference if nothing else to go along with any other books you may already have. Although I just noticed prices on the back of these, I believe (not sure) they are sent for free if you register and bid on any coins that is the only way I figure I received these. You may even get them for just registering which is free so it may be worth the while for those interested. One book is all Modern Chinese Coin, one book is all other Chinese Coin and the third is paper money. My motto is "free is good" when it comes to Chinese coin books. Source:
I registered and put some stuff onto my watch list so I can ninjabid later. What's the point of pre bidding? Or should I just wait until April 3rd and go nuts.
Fishy I'm not really sure what/if the benefit is to pre-bid, I did so in one of the last auctions and it did not seem to be of much benefit to me. Maybe someone like Peter may have some more insight. As far as I am concerned I just wait on the coins I'm interested in to come up and then fire away !!!
Maybe I should have used a more "eye appealing" back drop for the book photos ... thats an old blue towel I use to dry my truck with after washing
Thanks. Gonna install the software and be prepped Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 12:00 PM Start (Hong Kong time) = 3pm. AHHHHH f__k. I have an exam on that day lol.. starts at 6pm >_> Maybe that's what the pre-bidding is for. To place a bid in early in case you can't make it for the actual auction. So google tells me yes that's how prebids work. It's like putting the max on eBay and they will start with the 2nd highest prebid + increment as floor.
ahahaha !!! I just noticed this ... yea only $180,000 dollars A purchase like this would be followed with a $180,000 divorce
The advantage of pre-bid is auction house work on first come first serve basis. If there is a tie, first bid they receive to win. Another thing, if anything happens during the actual auction, and you can't bid it online, that's it. Few years ago, when Mavin International (Singapore) was using ebay liveauction as their live auction platform, and during a coin auction, they failed to connect to ebay liveauction. No internet bidding for the whole session, a real bonus for pre-bid and floor bidder, but a painful experience for many. I was one who want to bid live and I learnt my lesson.
Very informative thanks low ! *Off topic* Recently I notice that you are the master of older Chinese silver dollars. I may need to draw some of your wisdom on these later ! I am only familiar with Modern Chinese Coins but a lot of these other Chinese Coins are starting to peak my interest since looking through this Stacks Bowers Catalog. Are the pictures you see in the catalog photos posted here what you would refer to as "Imperial" coins?
