I was looking at various samples of native silver & gold for sale on the Interweb and found this page. From a collectors perspective I wonder about the investment potential ?

To make an incredibly generalised (and possibly rather offensive) observation, but does the market for these rely on whether a bunch of pot-smoking hippies have any spare cash left over in their munchies-and-essential oils budget?

i understand that large amounts of certain crystals have been picked up for the industrial application of their piezo electric properties

Speaking of which, that photo above of crystals makes them look almost.... edible!

Im pretty sure for industrial applications they are pretty damn cheap. So unless you are stacking tons i dont see how it would be financially viable.

Well if they are salt crystals they are :D

These crystals help you stack!!! That's why they are called "Stacking Crystals!!!!"

One near your stash, and silver grows by itself.

    HWOOOOOWWW DUDE!!!

The most profitable crystal to stack would probably be crystal meth :p

nah stoners are not into crystals unless its meth......its the new agers that rave about them....dated one who bandaged a crystal to her sprained finger......another one use to sleep with some under her pillow....she also had a pointy one on the end of a string..would ask questions aloud and if it swayed side to side would be NO...and if swayed in a circle would be YES......she claimed it was wicca......didnt work on me she asked it (or the spirits????) if she would have a baby....YES.....she then asked if with me.....YES.......I bailed....

If you want crystals dont buy those ones......buy or fossick for gemstones like currundum in crystal form...I have a bunch of sapphies from fossicking which i intend to get made into a ring for my girlfriend for that special occassion...And no she is not a new ager///

Crystals didn't do much for the King of the mountain..

Brock began to consult health practitioner Eric Dowker. He gave up alcohol and cigarettes, and became a vegan.[10] Brock began publicly supporting and, eventually, began to fit to all Holden Dealer Team specials a device called the "Energy Polariser" containing crystals and magnets that, it was claimed, improved the performance and handling of vehicles through "aligning the molecules".

Haha. You've just explained a mysterious thing I once saw going on in someone's office in a bank a while back!

An old lady had this chain with an attached crystal shaped like a pointed plumb bob pendulum. As the banker talked she'd be observing the swinging motion of the thing and replying and the banker guy would be writing something down.

I thought what on earth is going on here. Lol.

Well it sounds like these crystals are a perfectly good substitute for pregnancy tests if the evidence presented by intelligencer is correct, so could be a good trade item post-SHTF, LOL

This reminds me of a SMSF seminar when a diamond dealer recommended holding large carat diamonds in your super as an investment!

Lucky for him high net worth people are generally restrained otherwise he would have been booed off the stage! Haha.

Have you seen the retarded sports stars wearing those holographic "power bands", or as I call them, "sucker bands"?

Power bands are worn around the wrist and manufacturers claim they boost the wearer's balance, strength and flexibility. One manufacturer, Power Balance, says the bands use "holograms embedded with frequencies that react positively with your body's natural energy".

LOL. Not even real crystal, just some plastic shit they print out en masse.

I used to "stack crystals" :p I'd add to the stack every week or so.
Mainly for collecting but I guess worst case I could sell some in a time of need.

I read this back when I was lurking and thought: "so no one takes mineral specimens seriously here?" O_O

Investment wise, there are some specimens worth considerable amounts, but liquidity is only good during stable economic conditions. Cut gems are the easiest way to get physical... not that I'm aware of any paper gemstones lol :p
I'm all about roughs. They may be harder to value but you can be sure they won't be synthetic ;)
(And if someone does make a synthetic geode it's fairly obvious)

But really I prefer the roughs for their "purity". I admire their beauty much more than I admire cut gems.
Was in love with them ever since I was given some pyrite and a vial of opal chips when I was little. :3

Of course, these days we're not in stable economic conditions @_@
Right now I'm holding on all investments.
I hope to return to collecting minerals some day.

Edit: Had to add my love for roughs :p
