I didn't quote Oscar either, but w.r.t. your first point, a formal study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology led by psychologist Ella Miron-Spektor found that "Sarcastic expressions of anger, ..., can have a positive effect on complex thinking and on solving of creative problems". They postulated that "the incongruent information inherent in sarcasm appears to stimulate complex thinking ... ."

 

That's very interesting, I had not heard of this.
