Well the thing is Kooks had really been hibernating the last 20 years.. most have been available for a fraction of spot.. so really its about time they started getting premiums.. I do agree the lunars drop wont be long-term... not to sure this Kookaburra price increase is a flavour of the month.. after all these are world reknwon with a big following... low mintage and diff design annually.. World wide the reminitage appears to have been + for prices.. to my suprise the reminted ones available for around $30 a month back are now around $40... good times.. Getting the last few MINT UNC 91's at the current price level is a STEAL in my opinion.. might even be worth buying THE LOT as i am POSITIVE you could make a quick buck shipping them to europe or US 1for1
Swings and roundabouts! When I first came on the site it was Andean Cats, then round 50 cents, then Dragons, then reminted kooks. Stackers are a fickle bunch so I wouldn't cater for them. Collectors on the other hand... I have heard of more Kookaburra collectors than Lunar collectors, outside of this site. Australian coin collectors like an Australian theme.
You've been pushing these 91 Kooks for awhile mate. Are they unique? No! Are they limited mintage? Yes! Are they reminted ? Yes! Who bought a stack of these coins? The bloke who runs this forum! Who else bought the coins? You did? Well done! There is absolutely no reason to buy 1991 Kooks, they have the same mintage, "Thanks to Perth" as all the other Kooks minted by Perth from 1990 - 2009 and that is 300, 000. Play nice and stop BS the forum. If you have legitimate comment as to why the 91 is so greaat please tell us? Sprung buddy! LOL
Err... research needed before you accuse people of things mate. The fact is most of the 1991 kooks were sold in the 90s, therefore there will be a smaller amount in good condition, mainly the reminted kooks. They have reached their mintage limit of 300,000 so no more will leave the mint. That is why you should buy them ASAP. They are also priced the same as many other years that have a long way to go before they reach 300,000. I think the table in the below link shows what was left before Goldstackers and BB got together and went crazy on 91 kooks. http://www.bullionbaron.com/2012/04/perth-mint-reminting-early-1992.html omce you look at that you'll realize it's a smart move to buy them while they're cheap and available.
So wouldn't you be better of buying say the 98 which is far closer to selling out and was first produced almost 15years ago. The 1998 has had time to age an wipe a percentage of them out with wear and tear, also they have been distributed deep into collectors tight hands long ago. The volume of 1998's whipping around trying to find tight hands will be far less than the 290,000 - 1991's that need to find a home don't you think? I think holdfast may have a valid point minus the finger pointing
I don't follow? look at the 'difference' numbers in that chart for the amount available for re minting.
was looking in the wrong column, nothing to see here. My theory should be applied to the 1991. Holdfast and I are off our heads
NO! Not sprung... you are 100% INCORRECT... i got MY FIRST EVER PURCHASE of JUST 10 91 Kooks TODAY! Dont know why youd guess or make something like that up but IMO its very poor form! 1for1
Ok, so there's now, 16,234 1oz 1991 Kooks fresh from the Perth Mint that come in round capsules. So you bought bullion. Did you buy the same coin (1991) as the coin released all those years ago? If you say yes, then your coin is no different to the other 300,000 coins floating aaround. Do you really think that the guys who organized the purchase from Perth would sell those coins dirt cheap if they were nothing more than bullion? Maybe they have kept some to slab or stack away but I really don't see why a re-mint would have a huge premium now or in the future, it's just part of a mintage of 300,000 coins but comes in a round capsule unlike the original. The fact is Perth have re-minted all of the Kooks from 1991 to 2007 up to their mintage limit. Mintage to be updated by Perth - It will happen one day! :| http://www.perthmint.com.au//docume...r_Bullion_Coin_Series_1990_-_2011_Current.pdf Your shiny new coins are part of the 300,000 mintage. I've been told the original dies were used to strike the coins so how are the 16,234 different from the other 283,766 apart from being shiny and in acrylic capsules? Maybe I'm missing the point, but if the re-minted coins are sent to the graders what would the graders think? All the best with your purchase and I do hope your coins appreciate. Kind regards H
There are not 300000 1991 coins still around, I had two that were out of capsules, toned and scratched. Used one to sight a rifle I used to own. So that one is a little bent. Official mintage now 299998
