I remember many people enjoying the Prospector round from Provident Metals. I remember a few mentioning they hoped to see it in a 5 oz round because of the detail and beauty of the design. I checked their site today and saw they have a 10 oz. bar with the note "coming soon". Any thoughts on this? I am one who loved the round and nearly screamed of excitement to see it in 10 oz! If they keep the same low premium it'll definitely do well. Great idea size wise, not many detailed bars on the market. Hope they don't end up with the crappy finish of the Zeus bars.
WOW!!! They look awesome. If they are low premium to boot, I want. Any Aussie dealers going to stock?
I don't order from Provident much, especially as of late. But at some point I'll be picking up a couple of the rounds. And definitely getting that bar! Really wish they'd put the year on these things, though.
Especially in satin finish.. Really wish mints would get away from all this proof-like / mirrored stuff.
I feel the same way! I think the mirror and proof finish look nice in certain designs, but for the most part I am not that into it. I like the satin finish like you said or matte finish. To me, it gives the round or bar some texture. For example, I am REALLY liking that new 2015 Britannia (even though that's not really a matte finish haha).
And for others asking about price, I don't think it's too bad. As of now, the website is showing the list price (or credit card price) at 186.17 USD. 223.39 AUD. I think that's priced well. About $1.5 USD over spot per ounce. I am just excited to purchase a 10 piece of silver! The largest I have gotten was a few 5 oz rounds. With this huge bar and detail, I am beyond excited to purchase it! Let's see how this actually sells.
If you want a really cool 10-oz bar in that same vein, also check out the Gairsoppa. Made from real shipwreck silver (boat sunk during World War II) which was recovered, refined & minted into these beauties. I believe at least one of the site sponsors carries them. I like it so much, I might pick up a second. And the toning possibilities on these send shivers up my spine. Yeah, it's a nice price for something like this Prospector bar. I've seen YouTube videos, and the rounds look pretty good. I believe part of the reason they price them lower is so they move them quickly on strong volume. 10-oz is a nice weight. You'll definitely like it. Not all 10-oz'ers are created equal, due to varying dimensions. Just a personal preference, but I stay away from the really thin ones with a large surface area. Obviously they can go too far in the opposite direction, as well, where they're almost *too* chunky. But the ones in the middle have a good heft to them, without sacrificing too much surface area. Some minted/pressed bars are cool, like the Prospector appears to be, but try to pick up some cast and/or poured, too -- especially if you're the type to fondle your Ag. After a while, though, curiosity will get to you & you'll want to graduate. Make it happen & save up for a kilo someday. Trust me. Only problem is, they're way too addicting, heh. Anyway, maybe Provident will do a Prospector kilo in the future!
EDIT: Looks like at least some of them didn't have to be refined. One of the original .999 bars.. I wonder how much they go for... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYigYP46svI
Ha I just seen the 1oz and came here to post about it but you beat me to it. I'd get a 10oz and some 1oz bars too
Yeah, I don't do many 1-oz bars, but I'll probably throw in a couple of these. 5-oz bars would be cool, too. Collect 'em all!
For anyone still wanting the 10 oz bar, Provident metals finally has it available. Currently at $195.96 USD for Credit Card payments. Not TOO bad. Only $1.86 over spot per ounce and it's an AMAZING design.
Sure I'll be picking one up at some point. The 1-oz bar is okay. But translates better as a round, as I believe the 10-oz bar will, as well. Fairly impressed with the quality as a privately-minted generic. Provident Mint, whoever that is, does a pretty good job on the various pieces that I've seen, anyway. Just waiting for the eventual YouTube videos of the actual bar. That, and in hopes of spot coming back down a bit..
