What the cheapest way into Platinum, Aside from an exchange traded fund?

The Perth Mint coins carry a heavy premium, so wondering what bars rounds etc there are and the premium they carry.

I am looking at platinum and the fact it is $150 below gold price, a rarer metal and huge mining costs involved in extracting it, this coupled with the fact if Gold is ever confiscated will that leave platinum in an enviable position, considering its used as a currency also.

cheers ouch, do they do a 1/2 or 1/4 oz variant, maybe look for a group buy, so all stackers can get some?

Hadn't considered Platinum's position in case of confiscation. I figure people will have to flock to something else that fulfills the requirements of Money....

Confiscation is highly unlikely so wouldn't be using that possible scenario as a basis for purchasing.

Have only seen the 1/2 oz, not sure if there's a 1/4oz variant. Premiums are spot+120 for the 1/2oz which, to me, makes the 1oz Platypus 1oz coin a better option instead.

ABC Sydney is selling 1/2 oz bar for $794. Spot is $1467 which makes it $60 above spot price.

Plus if they can make up the rules to confiscate Gold and Silver they can make up the rules to confiscate Platinum, bread, milk whatever the hell they want.

Might as well just spend it and get some pleasure out of it if you (not necessarily YOU) are worried that the government is going to steal it. Let them try and confiscate the holiday I had over Christmas.

I have a 1oz Platinum coin, was a good group buy but I am not going to get much more of the stuff. Might be tempted to get another one next year but as I haven't got last year's one I will not be going for a set.

Are there test kits for platinum? I would not buy a platinum bar second hand as I would have no way of knowing if it was genuine. This would be my main reason for not wanting to get platinum, the difficulty in on-selling it, Gold and Silver are already a niche market, Platinum is a niche within a niche, unless car manufacturers are going to start buying bars here and there for their catalytic converters?

Oh ok, I used the same source but was comparing premiums per oz as in 2x1/2oz hence spot+120 versus the 1oz Platypus (spot+100) or the 1oz PAMP (spot+50).

    Ah, OK.

I reckon the platypus would be a better purchase. Whats the cheapest you've found?

I reckon it wouldn't be worthwhile to confiscate platinum as there's just not that much of it around compared to gold/silver. Having said that I don't believe gold/silver confiscation will occur but then again you never know.

Was thinking 1/2 oz group buy would enable more stackers to get exposure?
