The American writer H. L. Mencken once wrote that "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." That quote has never been proven true more emphatically than it has been by the Old Man and Chumlee medallions (or for that matter anything else that they sell on the Pawnstars website).
I live there. We are all still alive and well, regardless of the media's portrayal of our fine part of the earth.
Wow! Detroit is often presented as some sort of Armageddon type of wasteland, worthy of a Mad Max (Road Warrior for Americans) movie scenario. This is the first time I have heard anything remotely positive about the place. It was such a fantastic city, an American icon IMHO, such a tragedy that it's falling into ruins. I really do hope it's not as bad there as is claimed.
There's good parts and bad parts, like every major city. Yes, the bad is really bad, but the good is really good.
Used to be a great place, I'm talking a long time ago now. I'm sure there are some of the better parts still maintained and used. I heard today though that Detroit city has petitioned for bankruptcy. That does not bode well at all for the future I'm sure. Terribly sad and I fear it's only the beginning.
Btw Pawn Stars is all staged. They hire extras to come in and pretend they have these "unique" items, which are in fact given to them by the producers. Its all fake but interesting nonetheless.
