Im new and have told a few people and the look at me funny. I aint telling no mo. Thats ok, Ill call them when the shtf and check on them.
My dad ended up buying a stack of 100oz bars for $1200 Canadian each back in 2008. Then he constantly bitched because it took about 4 months for the company to deliver. He's not bitching anymore.
Only done the kilo trick twice, both females, but it worked both times - instant look of astonishment and recognition: a) it's worth something and b) it's probably going up in value. Coins generally equal "coin geek" (roughly as sexy as comics and Warhammer, i.e. woman repellent). I was standing in a beer garden today inspecting some new 37 crowns and two young attractive women stopped: - "What's that in the bag?" - "1937 coins" - "Gold coins?" - "Sterling Silver" - "Oh" (walks off) They're no babe magnet, put it that way.
If you can afford to stack silver you can afford to pay some rent. In fact, why don't you pay it in silver and do everyone a favour, including your mum. Sounds like you'll get it back in the end anyway. So don't talk about it, just pay your way with it. That's my 2 cents worth. Time is short and can be full of regrets. Sadly, parents are not around forever.
Yes, but especially if they suspect you have bullion hidden there - and come deliberately looking for it. 'Opportunistic' thieves are less likely to find those coins hidden in the pepper shaker in the pantry. http://gold-coins-for-sale.com/safety/protect-your-gold-coins-by-outwitting-metal-detectors (great thread - good stories!!)
Especially sterling silver - that's cutlery to most women. I wonder what the GSR is in terms of 'babe magnetism'.
This is more of an urban legend. Ever turned a metal detector on in a house, even a discriminating "gold" detector like a modern Minelab? They go nuts because of the wiring, nails, screws in furniture etc - absolutely useless for "detecting" for hidden precious metals in a house. There's simply too much interference they can't discriminate against. The first suggestion on that link is also a good way to lose your PMs to an opportunistic thief - they WILL take piggy banks and jars of change.
Possibly a slightly better response but I'm not going to start buying Gold to find out I'm not really looking for her support, just frustrating that after seeing all the silver charts she still doesnt get it and thinks I'm spending money rather than saving it.
Decades of indoctrination of fiat currency, its difficult for most people to come to accept that they'd been duped all these years. Most are in denial mode. You mother is one amongst millions or billions in the world.
(Agreed, I thought piggy bank idea WAS a bit dim! A 'common' crook would take it without realizing what he had!) Despite the false signals generated I HAVE heard of this being done - the thieves were in and out VERY fast - but in that case the they were deliberately looking for a stash because the owner had loose lips. So 'mums' the word when it comes to security. I haven't used a modern metal detector but I understand they can penetrate quite deeply into the ground. This might be of interest to people who bury their gold in the back yard. In a garden there might be fewer underground items to confuse the signal. (In fact it might only take a few ounces to gold to turn an average back yard into a form of "high grade ore" - with concentrated deposits!)
My Parents Recently purchased me Silver and Gold for my 21st Birthday which i was quite happy about. Some of the silver is 10oz bar from the Perth mint, they purchased it for $314.00 ! My parents think it's a smart idea and encourage me to keep in investing and stay out of debt.
