My first America the Beautiful 5 oz silver Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine, Maryland
Nice ATB coin! That one looks like the collector version with the special matte finish minted in Philadelphia ("P" mint mark)...is it? I started collecting the ATB 5 oz series at the end of last year when I first learned about it and I really like the designs of this series...they look much better on this 3" size than the 24mm U.S. quarter size. This series has excellent potential for good value increases I believe. The mintages are relatively low, the prices are very reasonable, and the demand appears to be picking up according to a coin collecting article I read a few weeks ago. This is an unboxing of the White Mountain issue from 2013....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLFpx3pd3uY .
5 designs each year since the inaugural year 2010 for a total so far of 19 (because the 5th coin of 2013 has not been released yet). The series is scheduled or supposed to have a total of 56 different designs honoring some of the most beautiful and historic places in America. So far in this series, my favorites are 2010 Hot Springs, 2010 Yellowstone, 2011 Glacier National Park, 2011 Olympic National Park, 2012 El Yunque National Park, 2012 Acadia National Park, 2013 White Mountain, and the soon to be released and somewhat controversial 2013 Mount Rushmore National Memorial Since Mount Rushmore is one of the most iconic places in America, since there's some controversy about the design, since it's a beautiful design, and since sales are getting stronger for this series, I believe the Mount Rushmore coin will be a coin that I am buying more than one of. .
Thanks for the info! Woow, that's a lot of coins. I will maybe buy some. Rushmore looks very interesting as well as some you've mentioned in your post. I must check the rest, I'm not familiar with them. Will there be/was any with Liberty statue?

Interesting that Ellis Island is considered part of New Jersey. For many years, there was great controversy between New York and New Jersey as to who owns the right to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I thought they never resolved that...or did NY concede? Which state can claim Ellis Island is a big deal for a number of reasons, including of course, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable monuments in the entire world. .
Mt Rushmore ("P" collector version) sold out more quickly than any other US Mint coin in 2013 I believe, and perhaps ever? Anyone knows what the record is for silver coin sellouts at the US Mint? .
I personally believe the demand for these will pick up in a few years when people are comparing the average mintages of these with the average mintages of silver eagles. I think these are longer term holds before their true value is discovered, not counting the here and there coins like Hawaii that do well much quicker... Mintage comparisons should look something like: ATB: 30,000 SAE: 35,000,000
American silver eagles buyers are mainly buyers who look for government backed (counterfeit protection) low premium, liquid bullion, while the atb's will be highe premium and therefore less liquid so your mintage limits become less important
The ATB 5 oz bullion version often has as low or even a lower premium than ASE bullion coins...at least in the States. As for higher demand, I just saw the ending of an ebay auction for 5 of the most recent coins (2013) sell for about a 16% increase over the price you could have bought for less than a year ago. That's a pretty decent ROI for just a few months of doing nothing but storing 5 coins. .
Yeah these are just like lunars, pandas, kooks, ect. they are semi numis hit n miss(well hit n not hit as hard)
My point was that the BU ATB that is "cheap" / low premium bullion today and doesn't necessarily appeal to the higher premium buyer today but may down the road. My main point is that I'd buy 1 ATB before 5 SAEs.
