I remember last year, when i first got my consciousness about buying precious metals and still didn't know very much at all, a friend of mine who has been stacking for a couple of years told me that he's buying Libertads and recommends that I buy some too. Being the ignorant newbie that I was not having looked seriously into that recommendation, I convinced myself that I want no part of Mexican coins....only US. Today, nearly a year later, I have completely reversed my sentiment on Mexican coins because I know more than I did a year ago. Now I see that silver/gold Mexican coins are not only good investment coins, but the quality of Mexican minted coins are quite excellent. I have went from ignorant critic to fan and consumer of Mexican coins like silver Libertads, Aztec Calendar, and others. I've joined many other precious metal stackers and coin enthusiasts who have already understood the value of these Mexican coins.
Some 1 oz Libertads have arrived, yay !! Seller was nice and some came in plastic air-tights, others came in a plastic tube ... so no card board tubes.
I think I will "soon" follow you. Someone in other topic (debate about different bullion coins) said that most of his friends (or was just one) invest mainly only in Libertads. @Mirrorman, great! Guess you sound like very pleased with order.
It was only proof fractionals not produced 2012. Monday, January 14, 2013 2012 Gold & Silver Libertad Mintages, News on 2013 Libertads Posted by Gabriel Leif Bellman | Filed Under: Casa de Moneda de Mexico The beautiful Mexican Libertad continues to show off her unpredictable nature. Fresh from a curious 2012 year that saw an end to the fractional proofs, and the release of the 30th Anniversary Set- which was minted to 1500, there are new developments. The mintage numbers are in (courtesy of Lois & Don Bailey): The Gold Bullion numbers came in at 3000 1 ounce coins, and the Silver Mintage numbers for the bullion coins are: 5 ounce 9500, 2 ounce 18600, 1 ounce 746400, 1/2 ounce 17000, 1/4 ounce 16700, 1/10 ounce 3300. What does this mean for the BU numbers? Well, if these numbers hold, the 1/10 ounce becomes the lowest minted BU Libertad- edging out the 2007 (3500). For the many proof Libertad collectors, the 1 oz proof the numbers came in at 4200, which represents the lowest number since 2006, and puts the proof coin in the realm of the 1995-2006 figures. Considering the premiums that low mintage proof Libertads have shown, this is a significant development. When you add in the fact that 1500 of the proofs were available only in the proof sets, that means only 2700 are floating around, and explains why 2012 proofs were so difficult to find. Recent prices have seen a bump, and the proofs have been selling for between 100-200 depending on if they were graded, and with all Libertad proofs there is a wide disparity in sale prices, owing partially to the extreme low mintages and large demand.
From Banco de mexico - recently updated http://www.banxico.org.mx/billetes-...medallas-en-metales-precios/silver-coins.html 1 kg - Brilliant uncirculated 2012 2,300 Proof-like 500
This means that the 2013 release, with an even lower mintage, is a very good buy at current market prices. I wonder what the 2013's will shoot up to by next year? .
Received quite a response when posted by Blanca http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-39549-today-i-bought-page-3.html
Anyone has more information about this Mexican Wing Victory Aztec Calendar coin? Seems like I can't find anything about it except a few eBay listings. Looks gorgeous...
It's a medallion. The reverse says - aos de servicio = Years of service - maybe bank employees or business employees. However, is on Banco de Mexico site - appears a promotion piece http://www.cmm.gob.mx/informes.html
