That was the first thing I thought when I read the article. If they movie it to countries where they pay 5%, why not just lower our rate to 5% and then they won't need to leave, it will give small businesses a huge boost and maybe even get companies from other countries to want to pay their taxes here instead haha.

While we're at it why don't we abolish income taxes as well and increase the gst to 20% to pay for everything. We could pretty much get rid of the ATO :)

Leave the family home alone ....Leyonhjelm can eat my hairy beanbag.
Now im not planning on having to rely on the pension but for the ones that do the fact a house they bought 40 years ago for 30k is now worth 1m shouldnt come into the equation.

I've worked in retail, wholesale, yard, dayshift, nightshift, floor, desk and classroom. Each has it's place and perks and downsides.
I preferred physical labour as it keeps my mind free to wander, and kept me fit. I'm surprised how draining being a mouse jockey can be some days, but not at all surprised how my gut has expanded being sedentary. It pays better, but if factoring the cost of the education to get there it took 5 years to get even. Had to do it though, too often I would snap at the stupidity of a so called superior, and they'd target me as a threat or troublemaker for exposing their ineptitude and being more capable at their job. Our bodies also don't last forever and I knew that if I was going to have to work for a few more decades it would be prudent to be able to derive income from knowledge and skills once my knees and back began to betray me.

I don't expect a pension nor feel entitled to one. It'd be a rude shock to get to retirement assuming it would be there to find out it isn't. I also don't trust my money in the hands of others, so I setup a SMSF. If it goes pear shaped I only have myself to blame and I'm okay with that, if I end up needing a pension and it's on offer I'll take it, but I'd hope it doesn't come to that.

I don't think I could spend my life complaining about genuinely underprivileged freeloaders and then take a place on the state's tit I didn't need in retirement. I'd feel that I'd become worse that what I had despised.

My dad never retired, he died a struggling small businessman who managed at least to pass on the intangible wealth of knowledge to the next generation. The tax office helped him into his grave, and from that I learnt the importance of awareness of financial matters and forward planning without state reliance. Though this was the only inheritance on offer, it's one no-one can take from me. I'd be content to manage to do the same to those that come next.

And yet we have the financial planning industry built around maximizing pension benefits.

Could you imagine the outrage if there was an industry built around people retaining and maximizing unemployment payments. There really is no difference between unemployment and pension benefits.

Do a little reading on "corporate sedentarism" and learn what a real problem is and at what social and economic cost ....

From what i gather Leyonhjelm doesnt care what people do as long as they arent on the pension as it is mathematically impossible to sustain .... it was known in the 1980s when projections on the ageing population studies were done ....

He doesn't care what people do so long as their peaceful projects don't infringe on the rights of others.

They dont seem too concerned when people get burned by BankWest though ... they are too busy focussing on pensioners ...

Bullion Baron......... unless your situation has changed recently from previous RE threads you have stated that you have not purchased RE and whilst waiting for your RE "Bubble to Burst", you have been somewhat condescending to the many of us here, that are in the game.

Hence with regards to your comments above ...................Talk About A Sense Of Entitlement :D
