    How is 1200 deaths from a virus where pretty much no major precautions were taken even remotely relevant to Corona virus that has killed nearly 4% of the people it has infected?

    From the data that you posted, 2017 was an exceptionally bad flu year with 251,142 confirmed infections and 1255 deaths for a death rate of 0.49%. Compared to Corona in 2020, 25,787 confirmed cases that are closed with 895 deaths for a current death rate of 3.47% (in Australia). We went through very stringent measures to curb the virus and still got a death rate 9 times that of the 2017 flu where no major precautions were taken. One can only imagine how bad it would have been had we treated this like the Flu. More contagious and more deadly.
