It's even better for first home buyers who'll save $2,250 a year on their $900,000 mortgages.

$900,000 mortgages was so last week. With the added leverage available with lowered rates, its probably a cool million now.

As someone who only came here a couple of years ago, its bloody hard! I get a better salary here, but it is eaten up in much higher rent and extra taxes.

I'm joining Boneyard down in Tassie the first chance I get!

I saw a few articles this week asking if Australian families were ready for apartment life and raising the kids in apartment blocks.

    Here it comes.

I earn an average wage and that is just enough money for me and my girlfriend to live very comfortably (I'm supporting my girlfriend while she is studying). First off we rent, you have to either be super rich or cooked in the head to buy in Sydney atm. Since we live in inner Sydney we don't have a car and just use public transport or walk, this saves a lot of money in Sydney. Other things we do to trim the fat is; we don't drink or smoke, our mobile bills are $20 a month each, we don't go on holidays overseas and most important we only buy what we need. Areas I'm happy to spend money is; living in a good safe location, heath, good quality food and when i do buy something it's good quality. My girlfriend will finish her studies this year, so as of next year my cost of living will half. :D Its been a tight 4 years, but if you are smart and have discipline you can stretch a small amount of money a long way.

I wonder if today's low interest rates still "reveal a struggling economy"

I wonder if if all the critic's here will ever understand the pissing away of billions of dollars in the bank that Australia had before the Rudd/Gilliard/Rudd fiasco of the late 2000 thousands who pissed it all up the wall with pink batts and school halls and the like ?

It seems that there is a memory blank with such things that no one is able to acknowledge nor address it anymore ?
Makes you wonder just where Australia would be now if true fiscal policy was applied instead of populist and Unionist mantra being followed.

Now we are left with borrowing to appease our obligations to foreign aid instead of caring for our own. Placing our own future generations in debt so we can all cop a warm fuzzy while our foreign aid is being used to undermine our very existence as a country based upon a neglect of our own Christian values who ignore the fundamentals of the incoming religion despite the basis of the Christian values upon which we accept them.

The Irony of accepting such people into a society upon which Christian values are based is quickly lost to a bunch who hold nothing as valuable and accept all forms of behavior as acceptable based on the religion of the offender as acceptable is just plain stupid.

Rape is acceptable as it was due to the dress or appearance of the Victim and the religion of the offender ?

Fuck that. We still do live in Australia. A country based upon the values of a Christian society.

They're all the same. Rudd et al just did what the panicking Treasury told them to do. Throw money like Bernanke said he was going to do. So Rudd did what he was told was the best thing to do. Stimulate the economy without increasing taxes by doing public programs and throwing money back to the taxpayers. Abbott would have done the same, as would all of them.

I've taken to shouting at the brick wall out the back. I suggest it as a means to influence politicians. It has the same effect.

p.s. I'm actually surprised they didn't give it to the banks like the USA did - but apparently that happened through the back door from the US anyway.

And had your clown friends not sold 170tons of gold at the bottom of a bear market and now recently given $9Billion to the RBA so they can flush down the toilet you would actually have a point.

    Better luck next time.

And yet we still has 20 billion in the bank. You are defending their successor who left us with the largest debt in the nation's history. 280 billion when they were removed from government. Try justifying your position. it will no doubt be amusing.

Just the 5 years after 9/11 cost us $20 billion, fighting the war on terror.

I know how much you love the Liberals (god knows why) but you have to accept that they're just as wasteful. Even the worst crack addict would be able to have savings if you increased their dole payments from $200 per week to $2 million.
