1200 wet & dry paper until the scratch is gone then car polish to get the shine back.

    Does that work?

I would think that this would leave lots of tiny scratches, have you tried this before?

Or just don't worry about it at all and just relax knowing that the coin capsules are doing their job - protecting the coins :)

I've never done it on a coin capsule, but many times on acrylic, polycarb, styrene plastic. Coin capsules are most likely arcylic of some sort.
It will leave thousands of tiny scratches, need to add some elbow grease to the car polish to get them out. Best to use the 1200 in one direction then the polish at 90 degrees.
Also, needs to be a fine cutting polish, not the silicone rubbish that just makes the scratches shiny.

With practice sometimes it can be done very quickly with a cigarette lighter, although this works best on edges.

Toothpaste works a treat on acrylic watch glasses or you could get some Polywatch

don't stress about small scratches on a capsule, they don't mean anything.

Brasso works well on plastic, you'll probably have RSI by the time you're done though.

DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this myself, but if folks are prepared to wait a couple days, I will try it on a coin capsule I have here, and post results.

When I saw this thread, a product actually purposely designed for this jumped to mind, as I'd recently bought a bottle to sort out some spotted clear plastic on an instrument panel in my car.

    http://www.meguiars.com.au/products/car-care/glass-clear-plastic-and-exterior-trim/plastx/

This is purposely designed to do exactly what the OP is asking for - remove scratches and marks from clear plastic.

I will try some on Saturday on a coin capsule, which I will mess up first, and post results.
