Guan Yi is one of the famous character in romance of 3 kingdom.

The designer of Guan Yi is Lioa Bo who is one of the designer of the four famous Buddhist mountain series medal. He design Putuo and Emei.

This medal is minted by Shenyang mints. Brass is the media for this medal with 2 sizes of 80 mm 500 mintage and 120 mm 99 mintage.

Guan Yi is famous in china as God of Wealth (warrior) which is worship by businessmen, family, police forces and uniform bodies and various industries. Generally, you will see him in Hong Kong Police drama.

This series will issue 4 medals which represent Guan Yi virtual characters of "loyalty", "justice", "benevolence", "courage" which showing the signature history stories of him.

The first medal is fully presenting the "loyalty' character of Guan Yi which embodies the heroic figures of him with the story of "Trinidad Riding Alone ". Guan Yi Lord/king Liu Bei and son has loss during war time. Guan Yi force to help the enemy kingdom Cao Cao on temporarily basis to protect the small lord of Lui Bei son. Lui Bei pledges to Yuan shu. Guan Yi protect Lui Bee wife and travel thousand miles to meet his lord by passing all the obstacles after found his lord where about. This represent the loyalty to the lord without fail.

Here the photo of diff sizes of the medal. Please notes that the body and leg is not proportionate and eye of the horse is not good. However overall is good high relief and story line for the medal.

I wanted to post this medal few days or weeks ago when I first saw it. I like it as well!

Not sure if I knew before that it's taken from The Romance of Three Kingdoms. I read Sun Tzu's Art of War at least twice. John Minford's translation is pure gold. There are many interesting (historic) stories inside, many also referencing The Romance of Three Kingdoms.
Actually I think that everybody who is at least a little interested in MCC should read it.

 

I saw that medal several weeks ago on TaoBao and I like it. I may have to put it on my secondary to-get list....my primary to-get list is so big already!

I was hoping that they include other characters as part of the series, not just Guan Yu. I would have loved to see Zhuge Liang, my favourite character of all of them.

Just to clarify; does Shenyang mint guarantees buy back of only this medal, or the offer is extended to all medals coming out of their mint?

 

As I know is only to this medal.

This matter is commissioning by private party and Guan Yu is the key for them.

They might be considering Lui Bei, Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei and others in the medal BUT not the main character.

I have no news at all at this moment.

The smaller GuanYu (80mm brass) shown in the OP is awesome!


The relief just pops off the medal. Both sides are incredible.

I like them all, but probably my favorite Chinese medal of the past few months.
