Madly in love with the 2014 Kook. Saved $15 USD with free shipping, because I threw in a 2015 1-oz Britannia with the order. Not going to ship for 2-3 weeks, though, since it's a pre-order. I'll be lucky if I get it before Christmas. Still want to get a Libertad someday. Curious what others' 1st kilo coins were..
First kilo coins were a 2008 kilo lunar mouse and 2012 kilo lunar dragon. Tried collecting the 2008-2014 kilo koala but gave that up to a fellow stacker.
Nice mouse & dragon! Perth Lunar kilo's are definitely on my permanent watch list. But given my limited budget for this size, these kilo's will have to be the right coin at the right price. IOW, it's not going to happen very often for me, unless spot continues to get whacked & stays down for quite a while. Will probably stick to "current year" at any given time. Going to have to stick to BU, too.
First kilo coin will always be the one I love. So much prettier than a one kilo bar. you'll stare at it for a looonnnggg time before putting it away.
Welcome to the Kilo Coin Club. My first was a 2011 Koala back when I knew nothing about silver. Wish I'd known about the forum back then.
Already know I will. Over & over again. Then again, certain bars can be pretty sexy, too, IMO. In the meantime, anyway, this will have to hold me over.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkSmQYwEk6k
Mine was the kilo snake and I bought the horse about 4 months ago. Saving up for the goat and possibly the kookaburra if funds allow! They are addicting to buy and a sight to behold!
I have the kilo dragon, nice enough but too thick, I want it at least twice the diameter. If memory serves me they can keep minting the Kilo lunars right up to the end of the series, if they make any more of the dragons I might get a couple more.
I totally agree. I wish they were about half as thick again as the 10oz and maybe 50% greater diameter than they are now. I'm actually going off kilos, dammed impressive coins but I seem to be drawn to the 10oz. I wish they had kept up with the half kilo, I think that's a good form factor. Something about the kilo coins really makes me want to find a giant coke machine to put one in and get a 30 liter can of sprite. They do kind of put me in mind of a giants pocket change. In the meantime I love my kilo lunars. I never thought I'd find anything better than big lunars but now I've discovered early proof kooks in kilo and 10oz...if I wasn't trying to put ounces in the stack I wouldn't sell them but it's time I think.
For those folks who like kilo size coins but are not so impressed with the kilo Perth Lunar coins or don't like the fact that the PM can produce an unlimited amount of bu kilo coins for any year up until 2019, there's always the kilo Libertad's... Libertads are really awesome. I'm thinking of buying one or Aztec calendar next year. Would be nice gift to myself.
Not so impressed with Lunar coins!!! Like who? No way would I buy those inferior Mexican coins. Nice coin but...we here in Australia have a selection of Kilo bullion coins and also shiny proof as well as pretty coloured kilo coins. We can also support Australian miners, industry by purchasing local products. Aussie coins mate! Kilo Koala Kilo Lunar Kilo Kookaburra. Perth Bullion have a huge selection of Kilo coins. http://www.perthbullion.com/shop/listings/1kg-silver-coins/
I had the opportunity not all that long ago on multiple occasions to pick up a 2011 or 2012 Libertad BU kilo at a decent-enough price. Each was a *bit* too high, but I could have done it. I passed. I'd much prefer to have a "current year," whatever that year might end up being. I'm weird like that. Just hope they start making them again someday. The 5-oz'er is definitely a thing of beauty.
Would love to be able to time-travel 50 or 100 years into the future, and see some kilo coins that have developed some really cool toning.
My first kilo was 2011 Koala. Its nice but I like the lunar series much better. I then got a little hooked on the kilo coins and bought the mouse, ox, dragon, snake, horse, and goat so I'm just missing the tiger. I agree that they are a little too thick and would be nice if the diameter is larger. I picked up a kilo libertad because they have a slightly larger diameter. I do love me kilos!
