Makes me only wanna buy from people who I can trust - that bought it from a dealer like PM, ABC, GOLD BULLION AUSTRALIA or such.... Maybe anything more than 1 owner will be risky
^ XRF from a dealer will generally be ok. Maybe it will just mean that dealers with the ability to easily assay metals will be the go-between for many sales. Still, for others, there are many tests an individual can do too. And I think that as PMs become more widespread, and the issue of fakes becomes more prevalent, that cheaper and better assaying/testing tools will become available for prices a regular PM trader could afford. We'll see!
To assay bullion they have to melt it down & do a purity test. I don't see dealers melting coins to make sure
BUMP And I picked up a few more today two out of the three coins came up silver with an acid test I don't believe any of them are real I'll try and get into town tomorrow the XRF test them, but here are some pic's
Hi spannermonkey could you tell me on the scottsdale silver bar how you could identify the real from fake other than testing it with the expensive equipment. How did the bars weigh out? I have 4 scottsdale bars that i bought in plastic like you have show but i thought they were genuine..maybe i will have to take a closer look tonight and weight those puppies up...can you give some insight on those. also to the last poster how was the weight on that morgan..any other indicators to tell its a fake?
