Here are some pics of fake bars/coins; these latest fakes are so good they fooled 2 long time dealers, by eye only these bars would fool the average stacker I had one dealer really surprised at the quality of the fakes, that's why they test everything The Buffalo rounds are really good ,the first pic of a buffalo round is a proof finish & had both dealers really surprised it was a fake The breakup of the fake 14.8% zinc 7.8% copper + 1.8 Nickle + 4.7% silver which is the plating Some fake Buffalo bars On the older fakes ,if you know the coin well ,you can pick it because of the plating ,like in the fake gold coin below,I don't have a break down on this coin (only pics were sent to me )
Some fake Morgan dollars ,very common lately ,the weight gives them up ,the fake weighs in at 19gm with the packaging ,one dealer picked it because of the color He said it looked very copperish ,over 30 years in dealing with coins you develop an eye for these things ( I can't pick the color ) Some fake jewellery I bought of ebay ,I knew the gold had to be fake for $30 :/ But the chunky silver necklace was one of my first purchases on fleebay & thought it was real
Thanks to those who sent me pics ,a couple of people who sent me coins as well THANKS A big thank you to Peter Davis (W.Davis ) for his time XRF testing the coins & bars And I didn't even take him a bottle of wine (but his claimed a bottle of wine Redback gave me ,that's at the Goldslackers office) I'll put a video clip together (eventually ) I'll try & get the unicycling big bird to do a voice over (I'm not allowed in front of the camera )
That bar was made especially to fool the XRF ,the outer casing was silver sheet ,not just plating on the copper.
That's what I thought when I handed Peter the bar to test NO ,it's the bar in the plastic that's a fake I got it ass about ,you are correct LB
spannermonkey, i've got a bunch of replicas I have used for research purposes, if you would like some for the same reason (i.e. know what to avoid) let me know and you can have them for what I paid. My favourite is the 1906 silver eagle dollar .... they never made them in that year
And nobody picked up my booboo on the % on the buffalo round It should be 78% not 7.8% What a few decimal places between some bullion
Thanks HEAPS for this info. How long ago did this start with modern bars? I feel safe with the Sivler I own as it is all a few/many years old. May have to do a visit to local AEJ shop in Hobart & see what testing they can do. Cheers Boneyard.
The last 12 months for memory ,a lot more fakes started turning up before last Christmas . Also lots of dodgy Bulgarian wedding bands in Europe
Here is another one that actually fools over 99% of the population, people are still getting fooled by this one and it's costing them dearly. Not many people off the street can pick it. Pic below if of "Money", one is real and one is fake, can you spot it?
