To follow up.....the buyer is registered in Albania

Did you send the coin to albania?

when I said earlier that the second image of the coin is out of its case,
I meant the case had been opened and it was siting in the other part of the case
that is why it doesnt look scratched

Was your coin a 2 oz lunar horse or a roo

either way I have not seen fake 2oz versions of these...but others here may have

I would drop that northbayrarecoins a msg and ask them about the transaction...
I doubt that they would post to albania...they dont seem to have sold any cheap item
and have sold a few items to bidders with a 29 rating...like your buyer
one of those items does not come up when you put that item number into the
ebay advanced search engine...it could be to old or may hve been removed

You really do have to be carefull selling overseas...specially an item such as this

    cheers

    cheers

I would never ever send something like this to Albania. It's like sending something to Nigeria

That is the very reason I stopped a major business I used to run on eBay. Paypal is just the same and together it is just a disaster. Won’t go there again.

DataDot technology is your only resort if you are to persist in this method of trading. In this way you can validate the returned goods.

    hi Grant,
    Thanks for your input!

I believe a 2oz gold lunar is going for $4907 AUD at the Perth Mint which is $200 over spot, so technically the buyer got a good deal.

that a great idea about contacting his past sellers and local coin shop. That’s much appreciated

I did indeed send it to Albania... I didn’t even realise it was out of its case. Good pick up. That coin was purchased new by myself in 2013, and had never been opened!

    it was a 2oz lunar.

    I will message northbayrarecoins

    thanks!

As it appears that eBay will force a return of the coin, what should I do when it arrives?

can I refuse to sign for it until I have examined it?

I dont think you will find a local coin shop in Albania...that is (trusted)

no one would return a 2 oz gold coin because of a scratched case
purchased close to spot...specially when the gold price has gone up
Albanian are very...how do you say...crafty and street smart

THIS IS 99% SCAM TERRITORY NOW

Has the ebay case been escallated to a dispute as yet

There will be a sting in this case...you are lucky so far as they have the coin
and are not challenging its authenticity and have actually provided pics and you
    did take pics beforehand

The only way that they scam you now (that I can see)...is if the coin that you sent is not the
coin/thing...anything what you may receive back...that is why you dont want the coin sent back

there could be another form of sting here....but I cant see it, if anyone else does please post thoughts

write a letter to ebay explaining that you sold a pure gold coin with 2 oz of pure gold, not in despute

and the seller is claiming that the plastic case only has a scratch now on it that wasnt there when sent

The coin case is available here in Australia for $3 and you offered to pay for and provide to the seller..he refused

ebay staff need thing explained in very simple terms

and explain that the reason for not wanting it returned is that you are concened that the item that you sent
will not be the item that is sent baclk and that no one returns a gold bullion coin, espically sold at/under spot
and that you have sent it with a lower import duties declaration...which the seller requested...
    give them all the facts

Have paypal cleared the funds in your paypal account as yet...have you removed the funds from paypal? I am not saying do it straight away...I am asking the question

    do contact that northbayrarecoins

This is going to be tricky

    cheers grant

I believe EBay are able to view the string of emails you sent and received to & from the buyer when things like this crop up. If it does end up being sent back make sure you open it at the post office & video the whole unboxing ( even better if you can have a staff member with you as a witness (have digital vernier, scales with you so its on record in case its a fake as witness will have no clue). The more evidence you have to better off you'll be in the end. Good luck & i hope it all works out for you.

Slavaja is unfortunately on the money

That is what I think will happen....hence why I said do not get it sent back

Is it insured on the way back...who pays for that

talk to ebay first and ask them to not force a return of the coin
because of your fears of the coin not being actually returned

have you had any reply from northbayrarecoins as of yet

dross's advice if the coin is returned is spot on

    cheers

    Update to the situation.
It will be escalated for an eBay rep to step in tomorrow. Northbay got back to me and they scammed them in the exact same manner!!

even best case scenario, eBay will force the return, the buyer will send a fake item, I make a claim under seller protection, I might lose the postage costs of $223. 18 years on eBay with perfect feedback and now I’m getting fucked.

I'm sure you'll be telling eBay about the conversation you've had with North Bay Coins - if they did in fact report this person, and now you are too - surely eBay can't dig their heads in the sand and just let this happen again?

This person needs to be banned, and multiple reports of this types of activity need to make it happen. Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in them to do it, but I really hope they do with all the information you provide them

Just as a side, how on earth did it cost over $200 to post? I assume that includes insurance? And if so, do you have any protection/refund options with that?
