Many employers now require a current National Police Certificate that notes any "...disclosable Court outcomes".

How easy would it be for them to ...

Amendment to CRIMES ACT 1900 - SECT 93X, Consorting

Replace section (1)(a) "habitually consorts with convicted offenders, and" with

"habitually consorts with convicted offenders and/or precious metal owners, and"

    :)

Oddly enough, I believe we had a discussion on drug tests on Saturday - I wouldn't fail anything a test on anything, well maybe for jazz... :D

    WHAAAT!?

So you don't even have to be in the same vicinity? I could be having a chat with one of you online, not knowing you had criminal convictions, and be targeted for consorting?

Glad I don't live in NSW then. I wonder how consorting works with cross-jurisdictional stuff. What if someone was convicted in Victoria?

There are far too many 'what ifs' in this legislation. Very poor form O'Farrell.

a lot of laws put in place have a greater scheme....ie, the ground work of forming the E.U (1993) with a common currency (1999)
was done by a coal and steel trading treaty in the 1950's...the powers that be could not have come out and say in the 50's,,,we want a single currency and government for europe...

definetly this bikie law will and has been used for not what the government advised..

am sceptical about the carbon tax....mostly as carbon is the building block of life.,,,who knows in 20 years you could be taxed for brining life into the world

when i worked in banking i use to smoke daily, be at work st0ned,,..even blaze a doobie in hyde park,....e's, coke on weekend, well not every weekend..

changed careers into surveying and stopped all together, worked firstly in rail construction (daily alcohol testing, random drug testing....)
now in mining and the same,..

if any drug testing i reckon the police should do more of it...it does affect your driving...but other then that, if your choice is to get st0ned/high...its your choice and as long
as does not ancreas risk to people around you..

but you must be joking about testing to join a little chat group../

Bloody hell, think everyones a little strung out here...

We were talking about drug tests randomly, not as a requirement to come to a stackers meet!!!! After all, I've seen a number of drunken auctions too! :D

Also be careful what you post on Facebook:

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-21/man-jailed-for-facebook-sex-ratings-comments/4212574

Making an example of people? Interesting.

It would seem that the legal types are having a bit of trouble catching up to the digital world...they're all stuck using laws that weren't designed for it, and yet they'll invent new ones without showing a proper understanding of it.

Funny they banned him from Facebook though. I suspect that ban will be about as effective as RBA fraud control.

Him and his M8 were absolute dicks, but Jail time for providing a platform where other people posted the offending material ?

Sure enough peoples feelings get hurt and offensive material and words might be seen by others but all too often "social media" is used as a proxy to judge mainstream and political media. This case as an example see's an Individual or two dragged through the system instead of the host (ie facebook) being held to account. The same thing has been evidenced recently in the MSM where Andrew Bolt was taken to court under laws that allow people who's feelings have been hurt to bring action under the law, also two msm reporters lost their jobs for daring to ask our prime minister difficult questions about her past.

Where does it all stop ? You cant have a free society when you shut down other people despite the offence they may cause to others.

I urge you all to watch this. You might hate what others have to say but the alternative, a sheltered world is a lot worse.

Its interesting to see they have passed laws this week to revoke your right to remain silent.
Seems as though things are happening more frequently....
This year is panning out badly if you ask me.

^^^ Yes. Luckily only in NSW so far.

I met Greg Smith (the NSW Attorney General) a few months ago. He had a lot of good things to say about reforming the NSW criminal justice & rehabilitation system and he seemed to hold good sensible opinions. Since then we've had these stupid anti-bikie "association" and anti "right to remain silent" changes which are simply downright bad.

So Australia is just doing it because the council of Europe is telling us to ? Next will come the amendments to the legislation and millimetre by millimetre it will be expanded till it achieves what it was put in place to.

As for free Wi Fi ect being a place of refuge, try walking into one of these places without your mug being filmed or photographed numerous times, got any form of photo ID ?

This all about control, of people and what they can and can't access and form an opinion on.

No doubt stupid but also no doubt the power to do so is there under law.

^ bet the real reason it was withdrawn was because of the expected social backlash

    That's crazy though.
