2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame series coins go on sale today at the US Mint. Anyone else planning on buying? I think the curved design will be a "hit". Based on some of the presale Ebay prices, I don't see a big opportunity to flip for a quick profit. But it is a nice looking coin to collect

The coin(s) are cool, But since they are not .9999 ( the gold one ), I'll pass. Even with the curved shape, They could have made the gold one .9999. The hardness for the coin even though .9999 would have been fine. The coin is inside the capsule as well. I'm sure it will sell well to people who are not collectors and would pay high prices even if the coin(s) were made out of toilet paper. .900 is insane in my opinion, To have 10% copper in the coin. ( maybe a little silver mixed in ), Is just plain crazy. Down the line it is possible for the coin to have carbon and / or copper spots. Good luck to all who pick some up.

.999 would have been nice, but they're bound by law to those specs. I give them credit for making them dome shaped. It's definitely not a stacking coin-literally and figuratively. I might pick up a few of the clads, take them out of the capsules and carry them around to show. I wonder if it still would give you a 50-50 heads-tails chance in a coin flip?

It's an idiotic law... Not to be able to make the coin(s) pure gold? You wonder why we're in the shape we're in.

Agreed. When you look at what the Perth Mint and RCM can and have been doing with shapes, colors and inlays it makes you shake your head in disgust.

And they just posted this on the US Mint website: "Our catalog website will temporarily close at 11:45 a.m. ET today to prepare for a product launch at noon" HA! It's been three years since the 25th Anniversary ASE set sale fiasco. You think they would have figured things out by now. I don't think the volume will be anything like that, though.

.9999 gold is garbage. The only good pure gold coins are those that are .99999 or finer.

Got mine. Don't know who thought up that waiting room crap. You would think the US Govt could figure out e-commerce by now.

Hang in there. There's a flaw in the way they set it up. I'm still "in the store" even though I've already checked out. So they limit who can get in, but once you buy something, they don't kick you out.
