coin? or metal? get this from friend, no idea with it, only know it's maybe silver. please tell me what is it~ Thanks!!! 16.10 gram
Interesting, thats definitely Catholic Imagery - and with the use of the latin word Pontifex and image on the obverse in there too - you can bet its some form of commemorative coin for the inauguration of a new pope. I could be totally wrong mind... But thats my guess...
John Paul II you can try and do a specific gravity test to check if it is silver. If you get 9 or above, there is silver in it. Most base metals that would be used as cheaper substitutes have densities up to 8. And pure silver is 11.3, so if your sample returns the density at 9.00 + than it would be silver.
My guess is it is a token issued to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Pieta (la Pieta) one of Michelangelo's seminal works created 1498/99 Source:unfoldingcreativity.com
Little bit of searching on the interwebs has so far only thrown up only one link which just says "silver" (ie no purity value)...
No metal info - anywhere on the net. you will have to measure the specific gravity if you want to know I offer you $5.50 including regular postage, and when i receive it, i will measure it - if it is silver ( 9.00 or higher - than il send you another $3 ( i keep the rest - since i assayed and measured )
and il assay it at the Brisbane Meet - ( i have the scales 0.01 grams precision, will bring pen and paper, and a cup for water, and something to attach the coin with ) and others will be there to see if it scored more than 9.00
well from receipt, it cost me 10 bucks to purchase it, so... I can not sell to you 5.5 bucks and include postage
Hi, looking at it.. its not copper.. could be cupro-nickel.. My guess is it is silver.. if its 29 grams (1 av ounce) or 32 grams its - gonna be 1 troy ounce .. maybe it will be 925/1000 (sterling). The metal looks silvery.. i dont see any tarnish which there should be.. Id say its 500 years since michangelo decorated the vatican with his works - see creation of adam 1494 1for1
thanks mate. it's weight 16.XX gram I forgot, not 29 gram, little bigger than round 50 cent, I will melt it to see if it silver or not
Ok ... well 16 grams.. highly likely would be .999 of 1/2 troy ounce... the weight would be a .998 fine half troy ounce weight. That would be my guess.. would i back it up by giving you half of 1 oz spot? No.. Why? Cos i am fallible and make mistakes.. 1for1
