    Edit to add: but yes, the majority of consumers are conditioned by convenience, it's only when they stop and think that they react to the price.

    Have to say I agree here. While this place sounds like they are indeed making a tidy profit from lowballing people, no one is forcing the gold owners to sell to them. If they aren't willing to do their due diligence, who's fault is it?

    ...bit different if they know the person is selling their last piece of jewellery and their family is starving of course.

    No one especially families should be starving in Australia that would be a choice even if your unemployed and your wife is unemployed and you got 2 kids etc (if your a single mother you get more)
    You are clearing over $500 / week on centrelink for a family of 4
    Now luxurys are different matter
    Most likely someone at this time of year at gold buyers at the shops selling gold = christmas pressies or party or something that is considered a luxury
