Since "suspending" the 5oz and 10oz silver bullions in December, has anyone got the skinny as to whether or not this suspension will turn into a discontinuance of these sized coins? Or we expect to see them back for the Dragon ?
I sent a message to there blog 3weeks ago and got the standard "some time in the future". So I'd guess they might start up again if there new prodution facility can handle the work load, if not no 5-10's for a while is my guess.
I don't think its a big call. The 1oz coins will be wiped out a few weeks after they're released and that will leave the Perth Mint with a their normal minting capacity plus the shiny new press they just got plus a whole heap of demand from people who want coins with dragons on them.
Will the mint be able to produce 300,000 1 oz coins in a couple of weeks? I know very little about how the minting process works but that would be serious turnover. I think they would easily sell the dragons that quickly but not sure about making them that quickly.
I'd suspect they've already started making them, or at least they will have made a decent sized batch which is ready to ship as soon as they're officially released.
I don't think they"ll start making Dragons till August and I'd be suprised if they had the 300k ready for sale at the start? ( dose Pm start with a full inventory ?). There was a wisper it' could be near Oct before they showed up for sale, anyway I'll go out on a lim and say no chance of a 5-10oz coin this year.
I'd put money on it that they will mint the 5-10 oz coins this year. Almost no chance of 1/2kg though....
The 2010 Tigers were the last 1/2kg coins issued. That size has been discontinued. Remember the 5oz coins have a denomination of $8. I really don't think the Perth Mint will pass up the opportunity to issue an Asian themed coin with a lucky number on it.
The design for the 2012 Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon (10kg, 1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz) gold bullion coins 10 kg gold dragon. hard out.
anyone fancy the gemstone 1kg dragon as much chop? they seem pretty pointless those coins for the retarded mark up 'issue price'
Sounds like the rumours of both proof and coloured proof dragons is correct then. Re the 2012 20oz Koala - I'm still waiting for the 2011 one to come out that was mentioned in Feb: http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-78803.html#p78803
Well now that gets my attention..wow 2012 1 Tonne Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin The design on the 2012 1 Tonne Exhibition Kangaroo gold bullion coin depicts a representation of a kangaroo surrounded by sunrays. Immediately inside the rim of the coin, a circle of raised beads appear, and includes the inscriptions 'RED KANGAROO', '2012' and 'AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO 1 TONNE 9999 GOLD'.
