Hi guys, So I have been considering getting some 2015 gold pandas as part of stacking semi numis, but with the lack of weight and composition I am really hesitant to go ahead with the new ones. What are people's thoughts on this? Worth getting? or stay clear? Thanks
I want to buy the set gold panda 2015, but i don't know if i have to buy OMP or slab ms70? I think it's like a new serie because laci composition and weight for the first time and perhap's the last time.
Actually good point: has the mint advised whether this is a permanent thing? Although I doubt they would indicate anything ahead.
The China Mint back tracked in 2002. They decided that they were 'no longer' changing design from 2001 onwards. Panda collectors complained when 2002 design came out and the China Mint resumed yearly design change from 2003 onwards. I got my 2015 500Yuan gold already. Still not decided if I will continue 2016 onwards should they make the 'no weight, no purity, no metal designation' permanent or change over to rounded gram weights instead of troy ounce (31.104 grams).
I bought a few just too have, I'm still confused why they thought it was a good idea to remove the weight and composition though it wasn't in the way on the other coins. Time will tell but I don't think it will be a bad buy.
Before buying the gold panda coins, one must know about the right weight, fitness and metal inscription that usually appear on the coin.
I would never buy gold or silver coin without Wight and purity writen on it. I even dont like American Silver eagle and Austrian philhamnonic, becau se it says only "fine silver" and not 999 (I know fine silver is 999 but it wouldnt kill them If they write it on the coin).
Collection vs preference vs investment. I take it as long as I view it good and feel it will give me good return
When I want to sell gold to somebody who is not familiar with Pandas, I want to be writen weight and purity. I dont want to lecture anybody about product I am selling.
I buy the current year 1 troz gold panda as part of my collection-in-progress. So long as they mint them in 1 troz (or 31.104 gr) gold and declare the metal, weight and purity during the current year release announcement, I will continue the collection. Once they change to round gram figures (not troz or fractional troz), I will then consider my collection-in-progress complete. One of the pitfalls of being a collector/stacker than just a stacker.
Personally ,I am not a big fan but lets take a different view for a moment ,new issue panda,s are essentially bullion albeit with a big premium over spot especially graded ms70 examples .I do not think these are being received well ,folks like purity and WGT on the coin,so one could take a different view ...........what happens if the china mint realizes it made a mistake and this hurts sales?? bingo..they melt excess 2015 and go back to the way it was?? Now all of a sudden you have a coin that is worth something ?? what about if the new design holds up ,then what about the 2014 the last year with the old design but there is plenty of those out there .I think you are not going to get hurt if you buy a few in OMP as close to spot as you can get and sit on them as a bullion play,if they discontinue in 2016 you might have something then you grade them and make some decent money??
tired of bamboo design at the back lack of weight, metal, purity on the coin makes it no buy for me. better to spend twice more but get chinese silver numismatic coin with mintage at least 10x less, and if paid 3x more then it is possible to get the coins with mintage 100x less, then 2015 pandas. that would be a bet for a future rise in demand
I understand the rationale, but still feel like this will be a modern numismatic if coin collecting really catches on in China. Might be pipe dreams. I think we should find out in a couple of weeks. If the new ones have writing on them, this should be a special issue.
