That smell you can smell is the perthmint lighting a fire under the premiums on old kookaburra's, serves you right for not reading their blog where they told you they were going to do this in advance... oops no that's what they should have done. Looking forward to a roll or 2 of 2002s
Wouldn't this "minting to the max" for Kooks change how the Koalas are valued, especially the 2007/08 years with mintages of 137+K and 84+K respectively? Assuming my understanding of the PM minting policy for Koalas being "mint to demand" until the following year starts production is correct.
Perhaps the one positive to come from this is that we will have an Australian benchmark bullion coin that will allow all other coins and rounds to be compared against. Up to now the ASE and the Buffalo have been the standard but have included the vagueries of distance and exchange rates. The '13 Kook may become the bullion coin of choice in Australia.
I still have my roll of 2012 kooks. The first and last roll of anything from the Perth Mint. I'd prefer buying bars from somewhere else too. The P/mint wont be getting one more cent out of me that's for sure. They are the biggest joke around. Scorp
I always thought the unlimited mintage koala was meant to be our benchmark bullion coin (around 900k minted for 2011 I think). Or at least it was meant to satisfy any spill-over demand once the kooks ran out. People will be reminded again why they are unhappy once the 2012 kook with dragon privy comes out shortly
 Stop giving them ideas ,kook with Dragon privy  what next Dragon with kook privy  Koala's with Dragon/Kook privy:lol:
I don't have any krook's & I'm not going to touch these privy's Don't forget ALL THE PREVIOUS PRIVY KROOKS WERE DUDS
The only Privy Kooks I have is a 2005 12 coin Zodiac set. Looks quite nice to me but yeah, you have to be joking, a Kookaburra with a Dragon Privy? nah, NAH, NAHHHH !!
Got to handle a "pre-production" 2013 Kookaburra briefly yesterday - it's a throwback to some of the classic earlier designs, me likey. Not sure how extensively it was discussed on here, but in late Nov/all of December 2011, there were no 1oz silver bullion coins available from the Perth Mint for wholesale order, as the 2012 Dragons and 2012 Kookaburras had both sold out prior to the January launch of the 2012 Koala. The 1 million mintage should help alleviate that problem of an artificial bullion supply shortage pure due to the staggered scheduling of releases.
