Just wondering when the 2012 panda gets released? I believe the 2012 kookaburra gets released in September if thats correct?
Usually in december I think, then throughout 2012 there will be special anniversary pandas released at lower mintages than the regular business strikes
where are the 2012 pandas? are they released on chinese new year (january 23) or have they been delayed ... ?
oh, i see i'm too little too late (not unusual) someone just posted a photo of one on another thread ... i'll go there
Yep... head to the other post http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-20370-news-2012-gold-pandas-are-out.html
thanks - i just checked it out - took a while to realize that's about gold not silver, where's the silver? apmex lists gold but not silver, and any site indicates they are waiting for silver too.
i wonder if there'll be an additional premium during the first days/week(s) and if it is worth waiting a week or a month for any frenzy to subside ... i know the release date for the dragons was met with very limited availability and huge mark-ups at apmex.
Possibly, but the 2012s are being minted by the million. They will probably end up with the same premium as other national bullion coins.
I'd wait; the current premiums on 2012 pandas are pretty stupid high and make no sense considering mintage. This includes silver pandas. http://www.apmex.com/Product/65586/2012_1_10_oz_Gold_Chinese_Panda_Sealed_.aspx More expensive than 2011...
Damn, I got ripped off on my 1/4 2012 Panda, Apmex has it for quite a bit cheaper than what I paid. I'm never buying from my local store again!!!
Wait a little bit of time... the 2012s will surely become cheaper... But yeah, Pandamonium over the latest 2012s over here in China too.
http://china-mint.info/forum/index.php?topic=4897.0 Hmmmmmmmm... APMEX taking the failed (non high grade) pandas out of slabs and selling as unsealed?!
Wow... it's an interesting thought... controversial allegation... But from APMEX's side of things, they are providing Pandas at a bullion price... just don't expect to ever get good returns from unsealed Pandas (since they would be neither OMP nor graded).
i called apmex to find out what their "unsealed" gold coins are delivered in - whether "loose" in 2"x2" plastic flips or if they at least put in protective capsules. they put them into flips. i do think it is proper for apmex to represent that it is not contained in an original capsule, but they can do that in some manner other than putting it into a 2x2 flip - a coin in a flip is subject to surface contact and even handling. an unsealed coin is less desireable than one in a capsule and either are less desireable than an MS69 and a best case scenario might entail a customer sending it off to pcgs to be graded again (presumably again as an MS69 or worse). i'm otherwise so far a big fan of apmex, but this is not to pandas or customers.
I think apmex resend all the ms69 crossover. If they have ms69 at ngc. They resend it at pcgs and viceversa.
I have never seen any evidence that apmex does this but I have seen round marks on the capsules from gainsville which match capsules I have had returned from NGC which makes me suspicious that they are doing this, i have gone over this before on this forum about the 1 oz silver dragons which they told me do not come from the mint in rolls ..
