"A pregnant dragon is particularly auspicious as a symbol of future growth and expansion." link.... http://livingartsoriginals.com/meaning-dragon.html
maybe they were going for a "reflection" effect since 2012 is the year of the "water" dragon................ yeah i got nothing.. prob just lazy, and gold skinny dragon is still fugly
I'll still be getting the max allocation of gold dragons if I can--gold is gold, and the dragon is a popular year--but I'll just be less emotionally attached to them LOL @Lunartic's summing up! If Perth Mint ever need an "Asian" consultant to cast an eye over their future lunar designs, I'll put my hand up, but seriously, after watching the Perth Mint vid of upcoming coins, I think they need to start looking for some new designers ... maybe have an annual competition and pick the best ones?
>> Dragons should look Godly, strong, well built Not so sure about that. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_dragon. They are usually depicted as skinny dragons. also google fucanglong - the dragon supposed to guard over hoards of treasure. I suspect that European dragons are fatter because of all the maiden sacrifices.
Chinese dragons are slimmer and more serpentlike, but should still look robust, healthy, vigorous etc. if you know what I mean. The Perth Mint one with its strangely tapered neck, sunken eyes, and possibly some missing teeth is ... not.
Note where it says 'the weak are depicted as worm like'. That's what I was getting at, this dragon looks piss weak like a squirmy worm. Feng Shui or not, it's just not very dragonish imo.
Bit disappointed with the designs...didn't think it would've been that hard to make some good ones. Personally for the silver dragon I was imagining one flying in the sky amongst wispy clouds to stick with the "lunar animals in habitat" theme that seems apparent with the lunar 2 designs, but now it just looks like the previous design...
Maybe this is not a European or Chinese dragon but a South Pacific Island version with superb feng shui!!! <hopes>
Need a poll. Which is the ugliest coin in your opinion? 1. Andean Cats 2. Gold 2012 Lunar Dragon 3. Royal Wedding Proof Coin  4. 2012 Silver Koala
firstly, if my preorder goes through I love em and if not I hate em. I just went back and looked at the design again and I can see your point, but after a while it actually grew on me. Go looking at Chinese dragon art and you see lots of these wacky looking critters. That is what they look like so maybe the fault lies in your expectations. Also skinny dragons arent weak like worms. I think they are dynamic. Fishball misquoted wikipedia. "In Chinese daily language, excellent and outstanding people are compared to the dragon while incapable people with no achievements are compared with other, disesteemed creatures, such as the worm."
It looks more like a worm than a dragon dude. I also don't see how my paraphrase is a 'misquote'. It's exactly the same meaning.
what is ahead is we need NOAH's FINANCIAL ARK like the one shown by Robert Kiyosaki. this is really BAD, water = liquid = flood (WORLD WIDE) the SECOND world wide flood, only this time is "a world wide financial flood", remember the word MERCHANT.
