I would love to know the reasoning behind the design 'copy' for lack of a better word, of the 2012 silver dragon. I am sure there would be a story to tell. Perhaps a design was made early on in the series? Perhaps the mint got worried that the design wasnt very good? Perhaps it was too late in the process to get another design done? Or no suitable artist was available? Perhaps they just reversed the 2000 design, and zoomed in to take out the outside fluff? The only option they could take with the time constraints they had Of course I speculate entirely. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the 2012 dragon design/marketing meeting/s
anyone from perth going to the meetup that hates the design, i wouldnt mind paying you for your effort to secure me some gold 1oz dragons pm me, we can work someting out butt ugly or not, with a mintage of only 30k, and perth mint putting their normal premium on coins, they will sell out damn quick... would you rather buy a gold 1oz roo or 1oz dragon on sept 1....
Gold dragon - looks like the character from Monster Inc Silver Dragon - OK, not as impressive as the 2000 design
Silver 2012 Dragon is not bad, the Gold Dragon is so bad it might get cult like status after most are melted down, I'm tempted to buy one and make a youtube vid of me taking a hammer to it.
does anyone have links to the symbolism - apart from the obvious "chinese horoscope" connection and the idea of "good luck" - anything historically further back than that in terms of its mythological connections?
Silver is OK--like other commenters, I can't believe they couldn't be bothered doing a new design. But the gold dragon looks like it's on its last legs ... doesn't Perth Mint know that skinny dragons are bad feng shui? This might cut down on demand from the Chinese market ... seriously.
Does that mean that you will not be interested in any of the dragon gold coins? Interested in anyone with a understanding of fend shui on this one. I don't follow it myself but unlike renovator i need all the feng shui i can get at the moment. Ta
Dragons should look Godly, strong, well built not a piss weak matchstick thingy. A strong dragon symbolizes good fortune etc etc, a piss weak dragon...well you make a guess.
I dont mind them personally... but it is really just bullion to me. I did preorder some for my super fund, hopefully that works out, I have been reading the threads about the allocations and that with interest...
NM i think the thin dragon means it will be a lean time whilst the fat dragon means it will be prosperous happy to be corrected if im wrong then i can tell the chinaman that told me hes got it wrong Edit fishball beat me to it
