Agreed. The Kangaroos of the mid 2000's were the better designs of recent time, the 2006 my favourite but the 2005, 04, all much better. Can't say I'm a fan of the aboriginal designs of the early 2000's and the artist series which were 07, 08, 09 didnt rock my boat either. The 2010 Roo was passable but the 2011 "Rock Wallaby" and the 2012 dont do it for me thats for sure.
I like the 93 and 98 for me, no mucking about, a side shot, none of that foreshortening of the limbs or unnatural poses or disembodied heads, and an action pose to boot. Plain field with no decoration. Plain, simple, iconic. The rest I wouldn't give the time of day to* *unless the price was right, silver is silver,
Poor kangaroo. Didn't you know, everyone looks fatter in photos! It was the angle and he was holding his breath...
The 2012 looks like a wallaby like the 2011 coin which are more squat and stocky looking compared to kangaroos. I thought this was a kangaroo series, its morphed into other species now !
Yes, it supposed to be third in the wallaby series (diff type each time) then I think they will move on from there. Can't recall where I read that though.
(RAM) Roos are one of my favorites. Besides an iconic animal minted flawlessly, the lower mintage makes them a win/win IMO
Given you can buy earlier years for closer to $50 I don't see how $85 can be justified and the RAM release price of the 2012 coin @ $60 is over the top given you can buy other years for less than that. Then again if the Perth Mint can release 300,000 coins and people buy then for $80+ I suppose a 20,000 mintage @ $60 looks appealing.
And I'd rather buy a coin with a Kangaroo on it than a Koala any-day and I'd probably prefer a Kangaroo over a Kookaburra also.
this can be a good opportunity, if you have excess cash, buy and keep them real nice, then next few years, you can exchange for a later years ones. I saw Roo was selling carded one below the RAM price, what a big bargain he got there, but must buy 100 pcs.
