http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...10001&storeId=10001&productId=16626&langId=-1 quite a few US dealers are promising buying back from individuals at $100 more than the Mint price. And someone is hyping after several months this set will be sold for twice as high
Got an email from goldmart this morning about this, seems a bit dodgy when coin retailers are asking the customers to buy stock for them. Maybe someone trying to hype up demand?
USA -- going broke.. people losing jobs, the US$ turning to custard... ASE's - only considered a good form of bullion within north america... basically the fundamentals for ASE's are horrible.. if they were Chinese Silver Eagles then id say "jump in boys"... but they are not.. Steer clear.. americans will be broke so wont be able to buy this chaff over the next 5 years, and non-americans will be un-impressed by the boring same-same design and seemingly endless mintages.. YAWN.
Yeah 100,000 does not seem too rare, however if you wanted one for your collection then different thing.
The reason for this is that Dealers CANNOT buy directly from the US Mint for this set. ONLY individuals can. But a lot of dealers want to have this set, and they want to have them Slabbed, and then can sell them at much higher premium. That is why they send out unsolicited email, usually to their former customers, to ask them to buy for them, and then send the coins back to them, they will reimburse the cost plus whatever the amount they promised for the labor. I personally did this before for ATB 5 oz Proof coin for a dealer. But later they stopped, because few buyers are interest in them. They are looking at the history for the 20 anniversary set, which was sold at $100, and now the market price is about $300. So many people say the potential for this set could be at least double a couple of years from now. Who knows? but the buzz is there
It is true the Mintage is pretty high, but seems the demand is also high The mintage for 20 Anniversary set sold in 2006 was 250,000, and now the price appreciates about 3 times. Granted, now the economy is much worse, so at 100,000 sets, perhaps will sell out fast. We never know
China -- hyperinflating.. peopleshot for protesting, the yuan undervalued, turning to custard... Pandas - only considered a good form of bullion within a small amount of countries... basically the fundamentals for pandas are horrible.. if they were Australian Lunars then id say "jump in boys"... but they are not.. Steer clear.. Chinese will be oppressed so wont be able to buy this chaff over the next 5 years, and australians will be un-impressed by the boring same-same design and seemingly endless mintages.. YAWN.
Personally, I agree with you, but many Americans may not. If you care, read some comment at the following web site, they are still pretty optimistic http://news.coinupdate.com/secondary-market-values-for-anniversary-silver-eagle-sets-1010/
I'm keen on getting a few of these sets for my collection. Their release price isn't too high, and 100,000 is not many considering how many North Americans will be collecting them. I don't think they'll perform better than Pandas, but that's ok, not all coins can be top performers.
im buying 5. keeping 1 and 4 going to a dealer. i figure i get a free set and some extra money for other things
It was frustrating as hell but I finally placed an order for 5 sets. Look at this print screen of completed listing on ebay from a few minutes ago. Already selling for a 50% premium.
The Mint sold out in less than 5 hours, I'd call that demand. Apmex is offering $125 over cost for sets.
