Dig deep kiddies....you dont see these come up for sale often..1930 Penny? Legit or chinese knock off? (looks like someone found it in their back yard) http://cgi.ebay.com/1930-PENNY-with...k_rvr_id=233208551498&clk_rvr_id=233472451878 GM
You need to dissect the coin, that is on offer. The "0". in the 1930 is to fat, my first warning signal! The "0". is off set . The zero in the date leans strongly to the left whereas in the genuine coins the zero is more upright. And the denticles don't match the Australia die. Ie: placement, & total number of them. Fake,Beware.
Hehe, I love this from the seller! "THIS ITEM WAS BOUGHT IN A BULK LOT OF COINS LOOKS GENUINE"..........But wait for it! No refunds  I really needa beer.
Wow 3.4k? Dammnnn I would be cut if I lost out on 3.4k :| He even suggests bank deposit offering a lower price, I thought that was against the TOC of eBay? And if a sucker deposits money in he's screwed, no way to get it back!
I have reported this to eBay as listing appears to contradict itself. Coin is I believe fake due to a number of reasons. Caveat Emptor
And this is a good example of why I stay clear of numismatics unless I'm getting them @ close to bullion
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. I recommend anyone wanting to purchase rare high value coins to do it through a recognised ANDA dealer as this guarantees authenticity and quality. There are way too many fakes, forgeries and manipulated coins out there and a lot sell on eBay unfortunately. You may pay more at a dealer, but I think it is well worth it in the long term.
If anyone is interested ... in the last 12 years, the value of the 1930 penny has roughly tripled .... the value of the 1923 half penny has risen around five fold. It's not always the big ticket items that are worth investing in ... you need to consider the other scarcer high quality coins and be prepared to hold long term. Watch out for the 1933/32 overdate penny, the 1922/21 overdate threepence and the 1915 half penny BUT all need to be graded at least VF minimum with EF or higher being the grade you want (1922/21 overdate in at least F)
Guys! Remember the auction in Brisbane about 6months ago. A 1930 penny sold for $78k. One sold also in my area that attracted local news coverage for $26k. You would have to be an expert to even contemplate buying a coin like this on ebay. Regards Errol43
It just cracked $10K man that is crazy for such an unseen item, would want instant verification from an ANDA dealer on that one.
The guys bidding on this item, are not any type of suckers, they took the coins price to $10k !!! They think they now what they are doing, and it seems that they have bid a fake to astronomical prices. And they probably cant ask their friend dealers to check the coin out for authenticity due to the fact that the dealers might be bidding on the coin too. $10k on a fake - sad.
