At current spot of AUD 19.64 it just cost me the equivalent to 105 ounces of silver to renew my CTP green slip, registration and comprehensive insurance. :(

The equivalent of one of these (not me):

Which is why I refuse to buy a car.

Public transport is the way to go!

I survived 10 years without a car in Japan.

As soon as I came to Sydney it was a disaster and I needed a vehicle to get almost anywhere :(

I survived the last 16 years without one, and only bought a ute recently for business use. They are a convenience, not a necessity.

I think both are true, silver is cheap, Australia is expensive.

There was a major service... Timing belt and lots of other things were due... lucky it is once in a while.

Is that a 100oz PM minted bar? I've only seen cast 100oz from them before.

I wish I'd known I just bought a cast bar but that looks much nicer, mine has an ugly computer controlled serial number engraving.

maybe you should be looking at what you drive. my rego /ins etc is half that
I saved $100 on my insurance this year just by making a phone call to my insurer and saying I am going elsewhere
having said that Australia is expensive and silver is cheap. if China has its way that with be the other way round soon enough

Not me unfortunately. I just searched for someone holding a 100oz bar to visualise the size of 100 ounces.

Here's the page with another pic to drool over. There's more than one bar :)

Are rego and CTP green slips different prices in different states? For me it was roughly:

    Rego: $484 (12 months)
    Green Slip: $530
    Comprehensive Insurance: $1050

In rural areas the car is a necessity. I couldn't barter my honey for fruit on the treadlie (if it came to it).

My crappy old '93 Apollo is less on the insurance, but that is all. NSW is damned expensive for keeping a car on the road compared to when I lived in SA (yes, and allowing for inflation). BTW, lesson with timing belts - absolutely do not resist the need to change them when the book says so - engines cost far more to replace!!!!

now we know why the insurance companies get it

how many cars on the road, and how many bars could be collected from. :)

Depending on where you are, Adelaide "Metro" is constantly breaking down, being delayed etc, for a while there I was catching two trains earlier (waking up at 5:30 am to make it to work at 9 for a distance of about 45 km)
and was just making it to work on time with literally minutes to spare.
