I think it'll be a hit. Would be happier at $300 instead of $400, but I can't see anybody losing their shirt on this one. Plus it'll probably be a good looker.
I think this extensive discussion is a testament to the high level of interest in this coin. As others have noted in this thread, it has a lot going for it, and seems to have much less potential downside than most world issues. While it is far too soon to say if it will be as successful as the Tiffany coins, I am confident it will at least hold its value and probably appreciate over time. Apart from the fact that it is the first coin and first series to depict the theme of ancient empires and civilizations, and the well- known superb craftsmanship of coins from the Polish Mint that others have noted, remember too that the Mesopotamia coin is the first in the series. First issues of popular series are often the ones that do best such as with the Australian dome-shaped Southern Skies coins where the first issue sells for five times its issue price and the others in the series do not. Finally, the fact that even at $400 from First Coin Co. or closer to $500 on e-Bay the coin is selling as briskly as it is also bodes well.
There are on Ishtar Gate: hybrid dragon-snake - symbolizes God Marduk and auroch - symbolizes God Adad. PS Originally the gate, being part of the Walls of Babylon, was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the world until it was replaced by the Lighthouse of Alexandria; in the 3rd century BC.
I like the coin, but I now that I saw Taj Mahal and Pena Palance I doubt I will buy it. Especially since I dream to have one day complete Tiffany art series as well. Personally I think there are just too many series out there that try to repeat the success of the Tiffany art. I always like competition, but too many "similar" coins just reduced the potential of the series. Like after Gulo Gulo there are a lot of "hairy animals" everywhere. Since I like (ancient) history I will be curious what they will release next.
I see. I think they are too flat, and the gate looks out of place. I might like it if they were separate coins. You could have at least three coins. Ishtar Gate, Hanging Gardens, Tower of Babel, ...
I can't wait to get mine in hand. The architecture coins like this series and the Crystal, Mineral, and Tiffany Art series are possibly the finest examples of modern coin design and production. .
I can't wait either. Last I heard they were supposed to start shipping mid-November. Hopefully we don't get another delay notice.
I'm waiting to see the actual coin in hand (or a preview on you tube), before i will make a decision to buy it or not. Just hoping that the quality of the coin is not going to be the same, like the Crystal Art series. And i do agreed with Stark there are just too many series! Here's the new series that came out lately. Crystal Art series Imperial Art series Masterpieces in Stone Series (3 oz) Winter palaces. My priority is Tiffany art series. Can't wait until February 3, so i can see new 2015 design.
Thank you XAAR. That was fast. =D I like the coin. But the quality of the coin is more like the Crystal Art series, rather than the Tiffany or Mineral art. Tiffany designs is much more sharp and more visible details.
I got my coin. Is really nice.
