Yeah, I see what you mean. It is the same person bidding it up. Smells like a scam to me too!! :)

That doesn't necessarily mean that they are shill bidding but it also doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't. We really can't know either way.

That sort of thing is not that uncommon. I've been recently following bids on some high graded 2014 Tokelau Unicorn coins and in at least one auction, people are bidding significantly higher than if they were to do a Buy It Now from another seller for considerably less...same exact coin and free ship on both.

They're getting caught up in an emotional bidding war.

It can happen sometimes for certain pieces.

In fact, I was in one just the past week for a slabbed numismatic. Two of us were going at it pretty hard for a really nice one for its type. I was stretching a bit, but something like that doesn't come along very often, and was willing to pay up (up to a certain point).

Towards the end, I finally gave up and let the other guy have it -- and then a 3rd bidder sniped it in the last few seconds!

    EDIT: Further details.

    For a purchase of 10 BU's, yes.

Works out to $62.50 USD per coin.

There are ten 10-packs available, i.e., 100 coins total.

Something fishy going on there it seems... I reckon the last honest bid may have been US$270 when the last highest bidder (other than the two left) was knocked out. Happy to be wrong though.

If anyone wants to buy all 5 of my pre-orders for US$500 each (16% under market), you're more than welcome :D

At this point, I don't know anymore.

I could see $400 or so, where it was not too long ago. Heck, earlier in this thread I even said at least $300.

But $600 is getting a little nutty, and while possibly legit (as all other proofs have disappeared at this point, at least for the time being), at these levels it is raising an eyebrow or two.

Then again, could be a couple (US) West-Coaster dot-com guys with big bucks/income to throw around, too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see FCC throwing up that large ask again sometime after this listing is over.

    First 7-day auctions are over..

About $80 for the BU -- which could've been had for $70 via Buy-It-Now, mind you..

And about $600 for the proof.

True, but it included post, so much of a muchness for price if the bidder was international.

First Coin Company has the 10 pack available: http://firstcoincompany.com/S/repub...10-oz-signed-by-artist-kiana-roo-ten-coin-set

THANKYOU code works to bring down the price to US$606.15 including post.

I have seen this before on many issues and I believe there is shill bidding going on. People collude and drive the price up on the issue and then cancel the sale afterwards. They do this a few times at release of the coin. The completed sales stay on eBay and then people mistakenly believe the market value for the coin is really higher than it is and begin to bid them up. It is sort of a way to start a process that feeds on itself. Be careful when you see these type of things.

It always baffles me when people bid things on ebay higher then they could outright buy them for. People do this on giftcards all the time.

    Bullion Baron is correct, though..

Something I didn't notice earlier: There was free international shipping for the auction listing -- while shipping to AUS, for example, for the BuyItNow is $9.95 USD.

It's basically the same total price.
