How is it a strange comment?

So you are saying...you've just purchased PM with no regard to the basics of investing?

Surely, if you researched the 3000 year price history for silver and gold...you would have researched the basics of investing (Not to put all your eggs in one basket).

I hope you have a home you own...no debt and are still working.

    Take care.

    H

    PS:

I think at these prices, physical gold and silver are fabulous "Buys".

I'm the same too, but I tried to invest proof numis too as close to spot as I could! mostly royal mint stuff on ebay which seems to be holding up not too bad. I just keep looking at the American debt clock from time to time and think the clock is ticking for the dollar.
Short term things look bad, but in reality the stocks business in the states is just a mirage and our time will come.
Hold the line men.hold the line

One thing about PMs, you still actually hold the metal. Whereas a sour business contract, or employee theft leaves you with nothing but bitter memories.

    afternoon all,

"Don't think I'll ever get to retire now, think i'll be working till the day I drop dead at this rate !"

depends on how you look at it.

There is one gigantic, huge, large, oversized advantage to gold and silver (probably moreso gold) --------------

    time doesn't matter.

Your holdings are NOT like other stores of value.

It is not a house - you don't have to paint it.

It is not land - you don't have to pay rates or weed it.

It is not shares - you don't have to be scared that the company will go out of business.

It is not paper money - you have no fear someone will cancel it.

Go fishing for 10 or 20 years ----------- your gold will be exactly as you left it - as long as you remember where you hid it and noone else knows.

You can NEVER lose all your investment -------------------- it is only time. And time will NOT degrade your metal.

Just go fishing - or get on with life.

On another matter - we are nearing our previous low ---------- I said this level looked rock solid ------------ lets see.

If I was right - we could be looking at a double bottom, which could have well been expected.

If it penetrates that low - well, who knows. I hope for everyones comfort it is a double bottom - but if not --------- well, nothing has really changed in the world. Still in the shit badly.

The fed is experimenting with telling us they are tapering --- hmmmmm, I wonder if they really are.

I have said - taper and die.

    Well, lets see what happens.

If this blows up in their face (or is bullshit) then this will be the last talk of tapers you will ever hear and we will have either the mother of all QE's or a global reset.

Either way ----------------- your gold/silver is safe.

Lets get back to reality here - we are in totally uncharted waters.

What would you rather be holding - a wheelbarrow of US dollars or a wheelbarrow of gold/silver --------- say for the next decade or two?

Just look down the track a bit ------- in 10 years, will your gold still exist? In 10 years will the US dollar still exist?

    Feel better now?

    have a great arvo

    gazza :)

Since you are stressing over your pm positions, you own too much. Sell off whatever it takes to allow you to sleep at night.

Since I hedged my pm positions via DSLV, I sleep much better at night.

If it was me I would diversify out of silver, claim a capital loss and buy blue chip energy, food, utility shares with a solid dividend when the market drops a little. Everyone's situation is different do your Own due diligence.

In all seriousness I'm glad I'm not one of those people that have put all or most their SMSF money into metal. It could be a long time before prices rebound and in the meantime there is no income or capital growth.

Wow if you have actually done that, put all your eggs in the PM basket, then you must indeed be stressing out.
This is a very risky approach, if you are risking your life savings in this way, then surely you are aware of the risks!
Admittedly PMs have this advantage they can't evaporate overnight and tend to be long term stores of value. But the timeframe is anyone's guess! If you have 20 years ahead of you, when you don't need to sell your metals to love or get by, then you can sleep well knowing at some point you will likely be in the green.
But if you are playing on a tighter timeframe or with a too large position, then you could consider reallocating part of your position.
Also don't forget you are on a precious metals forum, not exactly the most unbiased options round here! Many people in the red, bullish/ hoping for higher prices down the road.
As it was mentioned in another post: for stackers, there are no crash, only "buying opportunities".

Good luck, and don't forget sleeping at night is the most important!

I partially know how you feel but chin up optimist... :)

I trust you don't have cancer, I hope you don't have any illness at all, just try and sit back, take the chill pill, take stock and have a beer. All will be good we just have to be very patient but it will come - IT WILL COME.

Is this a pretender topic or so?
    Soap on silver stackers?
I've seen those pretender topics in the $forties too.
Only that they attempted to spread positivity.

About diversifying, yeah, first buy some silver when it's $40 then when it's $20 buy something else than silver lol.

    Sooooooooooooooooooooo much bad advice ITT...

He is saying all his eggs are in this one basket and most of the advice in this thread is to hold on?

I don't give advice but I would be PROTECTING MY CAPITOL !!! Silver is around 20 right now and if you think it will do anything other than drop to 5 and stay there for a long long time you have rocks in your head.

If you think the hit you have taken up till now is bad wait till it drops 75% from here.
