hey guys, just wondering what your opinions are on a good home safe. I'm trying not to spend more than 1k usd...
Alternatively, you could take this approach
Do you have access to the roof of your apartment? If so attach your stack to a weather balloon and anchor it to the roof with thin cord, it will be virtually invisible to the naked eye.
For the price of a "good" safe you can rent a "great" deposit box for at least a couple of years........
Under a 1k? Forget it! :| All you will get for under a k is a piece of junk. Edit - Actually, any TDR safe under 15k is a piece of junk. Consider doing some homework before spending a single dollar. Here's a great start...these youtube videos by Sturdy Safes are very good viewing. (And, these are just for Gun safes) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNbq0J_3lmMAz388_nWVRHA
Stick with allocated storage with a reputable dealer or a Vault service. We are lucky here in Australia we have a few good ones. Guardian Vaults and Goldstackers come to mind. Having a home safe is just too much of a liability IMO.
On a serious note, look at Brown safes. You wont get one under 1K but you can get a pretty effective one under 3K.
Home safes - don't do it. It is beyond me how some people still do not get it, after all that's happened. Just asking for trouble.
What are the chances you will be able to convince burglars that you forgot the combination when they visit your safe? Probably not as easy as convincing them you have no valuables stashed in a secret hiding spot!
There is nothing wrong with keeping silver in a safe in your house. The same people arguing someone will come steal your silver in your house have no problem leaving there cars parked in there front driveway. I happen to like this one for under $1k which was your question. http://www.safeandvaultstore.com/me...0_BfezZXTE0DdhEZ6P8QBn-oQgFg9F5xiQaAsqw8P8HAQ
^No way. 260lbs, One man with a dolly or two people to carry it out of your house. Safety deposit box!!!
@whinfell that vault is awesome! @Shippeevt I would recommend getting some sort of firesafe. Although to get a secure one they are quite pricey. But I am always more worried more about a fire than a theft.
. Noah, "Good news, I talked him down from 20 to 10." "What's the bad news." Noah' "Adultery is still in!"
Yeah a safe Is an advertisement to be robbed, hiding in plain site is best plan, in a locked box in your garage under and old blanket or something, then you can spend that1k on more
LOL. But was it Noah or Moses? Even better, after Moses got seriously pissed off with the first edition and smashed them, God wrote another 10 that didn't include adultery. The only downside was that you had to hand over your firstborn, but all in all it was a reasonable tradeoff. The only mystery is why he included someting from My Kitchen Rules in the list... that bit about not boiling lamb in milk. My earlier comment was about the awesome presentation box they come in, the one that melts the face off Nazis when they open it.
Seriously? You can get a $200K cash value TDR for just over $2,100 + GST + delivery http://www.guardall.com.au/safes/kcr615-high-security-business-tdr-safe/ http://www.sfdevs.com.au/citysafe/categories/tdr-jewellers-safes/kcr-615-672.html Good luck to anyone but the best professionals with the best tools and techniques to get into that in any reasonable time frame if installed properly. i.e. you'd have to be targeted by professionals because they know you have it. Some other decent TDR's are under $1500 actually that would surely thwart any regular random burglar, even ones prepared for the odd cheap-arse safe with their crowbars and what not. But yeah, no safe is totally secure, but you can buy a safe bet, no pun intended. I prefer my allocated metal though, someone else gets to worry about that stuff and has better storage facilities and security than you can ever hope to get at home.
