Here's some news that you may like boney... water park at Glenview on the Sunshine Coast which will include a Webber Wave Pool.... Sunshine Coast tourism ready to roll out the barrels http://www.couriermail.com.au/trave...-out-the-barrels/story-fnjjv0r9-1227004862800 A $90 million water park proposed for the Sunshine Coast could pitch the region against the Gold Coast for a greater share of the thrill tourism market. A planning application has been lodged for Sunshine Park, which includes plans for a world-class wave pool, waterslides, canoeing experience, 120-room hotel, restaurants and a holiday village. The proposed site is a 24ha parcel off Steve Irwin Way at Glenview, not far from other tourist attractions, including Australia Zoo, Big Kart Track and Aussie World. The applicant is Waterplay Pty Ltd, a privately-owned specialist consultancy with experience in projects such as Sunway Lagoon (Malaysia) and Wadi Adventure Park (United Arab Emirates). Noosa-based Waterplay spokesman, David Baird, said the Sunshine Coast had been chosen after several years evaluating Australian sites. "We believe that Sunshine Park will complement the existing attractions in the area and firmly establish the location as a major tourism precinct,'' he said. The project's independent economic reports state about 430 jobs would be created in the construction phase and 250 during its operation. It will be targeted at the day visitor market and families on short breaks. Mr Baird said that the proposed development would be delivered in two stages over three years, with the water and surf pool built first, followed by the tourism accommodation and other facilities. "All things going well, our team hopes to begin work next year and have the first Sunshine Park guests splashing, surfing and sliding on what will be Australia's latest waterpark during 2016," he said. The application includes a letter of support from Surfing Australia, with CEO Andrew Stark saying the proposal could offer "amazing participation opportunities and a high-performance training environment for surfers''. Regional tourism boss, Simon Ambrose, also backed the bid. He said Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd "actively supported'' Sunshine Park, which would be unique in the area and appeal to the area's target market.
