Believe it or not, what "Australia" will "do" is not because of what an anonymous person thinks on the internet ...

If Australia does what you think it should do with asylum seekers, Australia's future will surely be stuffed if it had open doors for anyone claiming asylum.

Are there any other mindless hypotheticals to be fruitlessly exercised ... children argue for better reasons ...

You don't understand modern economics. Expansion creates growth and creates jobs. It is exactly the same formula Singapore has used for over 30 years which has made it an economic powerhouse. It has a population of 4.5 million and another 1 million migrant workers.
Growth comes from a population increase. We are no different to bacteria in a dish.
Growth creates the potential for higher wages, not lower.
As for taking another persons job. The fact is nobody has the luxury of looking at a job and saying "that belongs to me" so the argument is false.
The people who come here are just as capable of creating their own business and employing people like you. It is simply wrong to think that they will all be on welfare. Most people have a desire to improve their position in life and thus employment is created.

That's a BS excuse. If that was the case Australia could easily take in more migrants wishing to migrate here. There is no shortage of them. They can be screened for our safety sake, also choose the ones that will bring some money into the country so they at least bringing something here. With asylum seekers there is none of that. They could also be ISIS members.

You may want to read the book 'the people smuggler' by Robin De Crespigny. It's about a guy and his family making the journey from Iraq to Indonesia and ultimately Australia. It may help you understand why some people would bypass all those other countries even though they are without a doubt legitimate asylum seekers (unless you believe being held prison and almost tortured to death is not a legitimate reason to seek asylum). Either way, you may not agree with their reasoning for choosing Australia, but it might help you understand that there are people who dare to make decisions that you as a true asylum seeker would not make.

So all this political posturing about asylum seekers, stop the boats, children overboard, etc could all be stopped by ripping up a piece of paper? Why doesn't someone tell the PM - imagine how many votes he'd get if he stopped the boats for good!!!

I wonder if people in those other countries you've listed feel ashamed because their countries don't accept refugees? According to most here - they should as obviously their moral compass has lost its bearing. Or do you think they look at countries like Australia with envy, wishing they were white knights just like us and that all those refugees would come to their country instead?

ACA are doing a "special report" on it tonight at 7pm on Ch9 http://aca.ninemsn.com.au

"The communities and employers rolling out the welcome mat, embracing the 12,000 Syrian refugees set to call Australia home.
Tonight on A Current Affair, we speak with the Syrians already here and explain the inside story on how it will work."

You're lucky your gov is smart enough to not fall for the progressive lib/political correct mantra of the benefits of multiculturalism, etc, apparently if they are refusing "migrants". Sad to watch once great countries falling apart from the inside out. Look at Germany, they are buying pepper spray (too bad no concealed carry?). Hope that stuff works against the trouble makers. I have read that in other places like Swiss people are buying guns and such. Maybe here in the US we can get a prez that actually cares about the US instead of hating it and apologizing to every enemy state for how "bad" we are, things might get better here. Go Trump! Any foreigners (non US folks) who think he is bad for the US haven't lived here and don't know how things have changed here over the past 8 years.

There is a reason many countries' gov's are piling in "immigrants" into certain countries. I won't say why they are doing it, but it is not to help the poor migrants. Anyone with half a brain (even progressive libs) can hopefully see that now, even if they didn't before.

    Just my opinion.
