I have just landed a new job in WA...I will be relocating to PERTH for 18 months starting in March. here is my question. I am looking to rent a place with 1 or 2 other guys going with me, and was wondering if you all had some suggestions or hints on areas to rent that are low price but still ok. I am open to other comments aswell in general or where stackers hang out there. I was looking on domain and saw some 3 bed places for $320-$370 a week in Kwinana..trying to stay inside 45 minute drive to Perth CBD. Any thoughts West Aussie Stackers? Rgeards, Willow, heading west to a place near you.
where is your work place? That will determine suggested locations. Do you enjoy the beach? Would that be a consideration? What age bracket are you in as this would help determine places and lifestyle that you might like.
Work is in the CBD, price is the major consideration to be honest. I do love long walks on the beach but it is not essential. lifestyle is very adaptable, can make good of any environment really. Internet options is something i need to look at too, now i am thinking of it..
Moved here a few months ago so not a big pool of info yet but have a look at Fremantle, Bull Creek, Cottesloe or any the suburbs surrounding those would be fine and rent is relatively cheap considering their location. Apparently parking is a b*tch in the city so might be worthwhile being close to public tranpsort. Though have heard of some places that charge just $10 for parking for the day. Internetting isn't a problem at all and they've got ADSL2+ here (Ooohh wow).
If you don't mind driving to the beach (it isn't far anyway) and prefer being closer to work so you can walk, ride the bike or catch the train to work, then what about a unit in the Mt Hawthorn, North Perth, Leederville, Leederville West areas. They all have the good cafe culture and are close to Beatty Park swiming pool and other facilities. If you want the beach then they are all fairly expensive (as are the inner city and western suburbs) and are not on the train line (except if you go the Cottesloe or Fremantle areas). Scarborough has a slightly higher crime rate and also a few more bogans. If you don't mind the 'burbs you can try Doubleview, Karrinyup, Stirling areas. I'm naturally biased towards the north of the river and you wil notice that there is the north vs south divide.
Couldnt find a better place to live then Mandurah imho Got the train direct to Perth so no parking or peak hour hassle . Estuary and Ocean within 5 mins either side . Fishing is excellent , lots of pubs parks and relaxing lifestyle for sure. Maybe i am just biased Moved down here 15 years ago and havent looked back . Depending on where and what you want to rent , theres 4 bed -2 bath with double garage on 650 m2 block for 350-450 . Less if you are looking for smaller. But for a relaxed lifestyle it sure is hard to beat . Fair enough if you want Concerts and Theatre then close to Perth is more for you. Kwinana i would avoid tho , anywhere around that area you better wear a flanny shirt with jeans and uggies ( lots of girls named Shazza around )
Yep Mandurah is the place, spot on Crunchy Nut, lived here 15yrs myself and used to have a freight business so know Perth very well and definately South. Kwinans isn't what it used to be either especially now with the train. House prices are one of the biggest increases in that area as people use it as a satellite town and a lot of the Shazzas have moved as well now.
Mandurah? South of the river? North full of bogans? Are you crazy? Willow, if you are going south from Perth recommend you don't stop between the Narrows Bridge over the Swan River and Dunsborough\Yallingup.
How about Innaloo? You could live there? Might sound funny but it's better than saying you live Upper Swan
Heard it all now..What's so special North of the river then Naphthalene man? Apart from more people, traffic and poms!!
Hee hee, where to start. How about I do it tomorrow when I'm not on the blackberry. By the way, don't take offence, I'm a sandgroper who relocated for work in 2000. Go Eagles!
I fly to Perth at least once a month, and get to stay at alot of friends/clients places around Perth and Bunbury. I even have a car there now, but no house. Rent is definately abit crazy over there, especially houses. The last time I was looking, it was around Herdsmans and Maylands area cheaper rent but in old apartments. If you want to share with someone then http://flatmates.com.au/perth also try realestate.com.au and reiwa.com.au for rental properties. Mount Lawly and Highgate would be like the Paddington/Surry Hills areas here but expect to pay really high rents. Yokine is a nice area last time I looked there think rent was about $500 for a 3 bedroom townhouse. Which you could also rent in Jindalee for the same amount but be a one hour drive to the city. Have also looked around Spearwood/Beeliar/Success area's young family area's. rent would be about the same. Another advice is avoid using the freeway's during peak hour. Mitchell Freeway from north going to the city is horrid as they doing some lanes just before the Vincent Street exit and Kwinana Freeway from south to the city gets horrid just after South St. I mean its like worst than M4/Parramatta road in the mornings going to the city. Oh yeah your lucky your going now as they have Sunday trading now which got implemented in August/September.
I just went to 3 EB Games stores searching for grandma's Xmas gift. Morley Galleria: lots of security, no problems, no car parks. Mirrabooka: No security, people drunk & fighting inside shops, my Mrs clutched her handbag & my son stayed close. Dianella: jingling bells, old people & great customer service. All three are within 5km of each other & sooooo different. I'm moving to mandurah because we can get all this in the same place!
Forgot if internet is important then victoria park, COCKburn (pronounced coburn but people in the area still laugh) apartments, and I think Bullcreek/Murdoch has NBN. oh yeah Canning Vale too. Cottesloe, Dalkeith and Peppy Grove have telstra cable elite for those looking at 100mbps+ speeds Dianella and Osborne Park has crappy internet speeds. 4KM+ to nearest exchange www.adsl2exchanges.com.au To help you guide you through telephone exchanges anything above 3km's, speeds tends to get abit dial-up-ish.
