hey, i just made an account on cryptsy and plan on buying a small amount of ltc / btc / doge
but in the mean time, i am lost.
when i click on open orders (i'm assuming that is where people sell) it says no data available in table.

any advice for a total newbe.. if there is any secret button you need to click to make it work.. i didn't get that memo.

if anyone wants to send me anything to get my started, would be much appreciated, seeing something in the account might help me understand

Hit a few faucets to get you started, In cryptsy click on [Balances] then find your associated coin and hover over it then click on [Deposit] (A new window will appear) then click generate new address and copy that to clipboard and paste it into a Faucet

    DOGE
    http://www.dogefaucet.com/

    DEV
    http://faucet.d.evco.in/

    MEOW
    http://www.thebitcoinmaster.com/kittehcoin/index.php

The coins you don't want to keep just trade them on the exchange back to LTC and BTC ( it's not where your see [Open Orders] that is just where your orders sit, it where it says [Trade] ), you can also mine coins in pools and send to Cryptsy or send them to Cryptsy from your wallet

Hi, 'Open orders' is the place where you can see your current orders for coins (ones waiting to be filled). You need coins at Cryptsy and you need to have "buy or sell' orders placed to see anything there.

cb28c06d02f97d53415ffd547354d8c3b8462333 ? - What type of coin is that address?.

You should not keep significant amounts of coins on any exchange. Satoshi Nakamoto set out to make a peer to peer network with no middle men. At the end of the day, you should have your own wallet/s. You are no longer paying a bank to secure your monies (so it is in your hands now). You are now the security guard (think about it). So put the effort it.
I have made some videos that may help, although there is more to learn about securing your coins.

cb28c06d02f97d53415ffd547354d8c3b8462333 is shinymetal's internal trade address for Cryptsy, I would send something over but I don't have access to email to confirm transfer atm.

Yeah open orders is for what you have placed.

You want to click on the coins listed down the left hand side to see the markets, under BTC, LTC and XPM, thats where buy and sell,

Cryptsy is a slightly daft exchange, takes awhile to get the hang of,

Just practice and you'll get better.

Sent you a small gift with which to practice. I''m using that trade key you supplied.

So that's using what is called a "Transfer". It's just one member sending another some coins. A transfer is from one member to another and remains on the cryptsy books while a withdrawal is to send it to someone else or to your wallet and it leaves cryptsy. Likewise a deposit is from outside cryptsy and ends up on the exchange.

You can view balances, deposits, withdrawals and transfers. A balance is how much of a particular crypto you have. Deposits of course is everything that has been credited to your cryptsy account, withdrawals everything you've taken out and transfers are internal. I can see your username and how much I transferred to you. ;)

No you need to transfer everything from outside ie your wallet etc to cryptsy or have someone transfer to you from within cryptsy.

i want to buy doges because they are cheap, and i can learn about cryptos playing with very little money..
I know some ppl think it's a bit late to go to the doge party.. but who really knows.. learning experience...
I remember seeing a link from SS to a page that listed a whole bunch of cryptos and charts to boot?? or anywhere to look at different options??

shinymetal, I think they're a pump and dump coin, so if that's what you're after all cool.

Curious to hear your reasons for thinking this about doge but not about, say, litecoin

they are both basically using the same software and the net hash rate is about equal (doge is often even higher)

if dogecoin and litecoin provide the same properties then they may end up with equal market caps.

One could say doge may even have a higher profile than litecoin
Saw a news story on Doge couple of days ago on the ABC (interviewing the Melbourne based founder)
and there has been a few newspaper articles about it
Yet to see any news stories about litecoin (bitcoin yes, but not specifically litecoin)

So what makes one a pump-n-dump and not the other ?

Litecoin was the original scrypt algo coin, same as Bitcoin was the original SHA-256

I'll start with intentions of the developers (DOGE was a joke coin) and premining, billions of coins, spam posts, spam news articles, spam current affairs...........
