http://www.downies.com/Royal-Austra...ur-C-Mintmark-Al-Br-Unc/4244/productview.aspx Already, another commemorative $2 coin? Too soon I think. In my opinion RAM probably seen the release of the poppy coin as a success and are after another payday.
^^im yet to come across one, even the remembrance ones with 5 million circulation mintage I've only came across like 6 and that's with the wife throwing a couple that she got my way. Its the piggies who hold onto like 10,000 of them because they think they can sell em for $10 each
Like wise with trying to find them. It seems that people who deal in retail are getting the most and are asking a really high amount for th and getting it! Too bad if you wanted to collect them at face value
I managed to get a couple of those red bags at the bank that yielded 9 between the two. This was about a month ago though, and since then nada
All distributed now! They were distributed along with the new 2013 std $2 in the red security company bags. Red bags full of Coronation coins have also been found; and recently Armaguard rolls of 25 Coronation coins have been found. Problem with this coin is is that as soon as it appears in someone's change, the finder becomes a coin collector, because the coin is so "beautiful". Other problem is that the purple enamel is not resilient and chips easily. ***Warning*** a few coins have appeared with the purple colour missing! People have claimed it is a mint error. Not true! The colour has probably been removed by soaking the coin in acetone. In my view the most collectale decimal coin ever released and the price will skyrocket! Currently selling on eBay for an average price of around $10 inlcuding postage. One coin sold for $72, others in the $50 range and one lot of 50 coins recently sold for $650.
For the Remembrance Day coin, the minimum Mintage was to be 5 million. These appeared late last year, but I suspect that the mintage will be greater than 5 million, because the coins re-appeared in circulation about a month ago.
Here is the original press release from RAMint. http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/press-releases/2013/20130621.cfm The Non-Circulating coin has the brochure and the C mintmark.
Still haven't seen any in circulation. Having seen the RAMs other coloured $1 coins I am concerned that they will just churn out circulating coloured coins until the market is saturated and nobody cares anymore. I have a feeling that in a few year's time we are going to have lots of badly chipped ugly looking things that look like minature casino tokens floating around. Still, if the mint can constrain themselves it might be a nice change now and then to release a coloured coin.
I snagged one of these as change a few weeks back, put it aside for keeps. Any advice on how to store it? Cheers
Unless you are mad keen on collecting you probably don't want to buy a whole pack of air-tite capsules or 2"x2"s if you only have 1. The main thing is to stop it getting scratched and to keep it away from chemicals. Paper usually has acids so just wrapping it in paper is probably not a good long term solution. For an individual coin I would probably put it in a food safe sandwich bag to seal out the chemicals and as much air as possible and then I would wrap the rest of the bag around the coin to protect it from knocks and scratches. Hold it in place with a bit of tape and then just put it somewhere and forget about it for a few decades. Good luck and try not to turn into a coin collector, it is way too expensive.
I have one each of the RMA presentation packs and about 80 mixed of the circulated. I have the local coffee shop keeping their eyes out for me so get a couple a week. I don't know if they will ever be worth anything, but I tell myself that they are part of my "cash stack" in an emergency.
I have about 10 albums of emergency cash stack, just started collecting circulation coins, I have two whole pages of Captain Cook 50s, about 70 of them, who needs 70?!
