1 1966 round 50 cent coin weighs .3415 ounces, 80% silver content so .273 of an ounce per coin x 100 turns out 27.3 ounces of silver in 100 coins at a cost of $36.63 per ounce of silver. There's $6.40 worth of silver in each coin. $642 of silver in 100 coins, making the premium on the silver content in a batch of 100 35% so you wouldn't buy them for that.

I have been thinking about buying a batch of these and selling them individually, that's the best way to make a profit out of these as a collectible novelty item but there's not enough of a bulk discount here to make it worthwhile at this price for me.

I just corrected a misrepresentation, would you like to correct me or do you allow false claims in sales threads? Tell me where I am wrong, I told him where he is wrong.

I laid out the math plainly, and it works out the same way whichever way you approach it.

He made a claim, got corrected. Cry me a river.

80% silver content, .273 ounces of silver in each coin, around $6.50 worth of silver in each coin. That's the facts.

Ban me for telling the truth, see if I care.

Explain to me why these coins ASW is worth $29 an ounce but everything else is worth $23.68 spot price, except these. They are special. They are 80% silver, they weigh .3415 ounces each so have .273 ounce silver weight, multiply that by the spot price and there is your actual price per ounce of silver in these coins. $29 was pulled straight from the sky and I don't feel bad calling it out.

The actual silver weight price of these coins is 80% of the spot price. Not hard.

$18.94 per ounce at the time of writing. That's a fair way off $29 so I have no idea where that came from.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the ASW is 0.3415oz not total coin weight

    http://coinapps.com/silver/coin/australian/calculator/
    ASW .34157 per coin
=1.02471 Troy ounce of silver for 3 coins.
Therefore, the asking price per ounce of silver is 30/1.02471 = 29.277 (ie the OP is CORRECT)

The premium asked for is within typical limits for this form of silver.

There is no silver @18.94. The current POS per ABC bullion is far higher and has fluctuated in a range since the dip, after which retail inventory was depleted.

Personal speculation is not fair comment on a trading thread. Your maths is off beam and you ran away at the mouth, which isn’t cricket, at least while the trade is active. There are very few exceptions to this rule. The main justification might be suspected criminal activity.

You should apologise and after that mods hopefully scrub all the content except the OP’s post so a buyer can be spared all this hoo ha.

Wow seems I have created quite a furore. I took a photo so people can see the actual coin weight.
I did take off $12 for postage before the calculations.
I did say I would do a wiki for the 1966 50c coins. Perhaps this is my penance for having not done so yet.

I did this calculation to first illustrate to myself that 1966 50c at this price are competitive to 1oz coins that are being sold on the forum.

.3415 IS the ASW AFTER taking into account the total weight of the coin

I doubt you would be banned for a miscalculation, but you could be banned for bitching about the sellers price. If you don't like the price just move on.

Well this didn't quite turn out how I expected.

Anyone interested in actually buying the coins?

On the other hand perhaps it’s best to just enjoy the day. View from my front deck.

Yeah ok I will concede that the actual silver content is .3416, the first source that came up when I googled the information has the wrong information and lists the gross weight of the coin at .3416.

    https://www.wynyardcoins.com.au/sho.../50c-1966-round-80-silver-average-circulated/

Apology extended, please delete my error mods and surrounding hullabulloo. I got lead off track by the false information in my source's information.

For all the talk/complaining about the shortage of supply - I am not so sure. It could be fake news and there is no shortage here

Is there any cheaper silver for sale on SilverStakers today? Perhaps I should put the price up.
