I thought it would have been an honour to be given the chance to carry the London 2012 Olympic torch through crowded streets of cheering onlookers, and to retain this torch as a memorable trophy, for posterity and something to show off to dinner guests in years to come, or to place in a local sports centre or museum perhaps ? Very disappointed to see genuine torches for sale on eBay.
my grandfather has a sydney olympic one which will be handed down the generations. Pretty sure I shotgunned it....
The "official" torches are a scam: http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article34795.html The author has a good point - a permanent home in Athens, where they began. But of course that wouldn't allow for the continuous gravy train for the 'delegates' that decide which lucky city conglomerate has bribed - sorry 'deserves' the Olympics in their hometown. Further evidence of unbridled venality turning everything good into a cynical rip-off by the powers that be.
Nearly had my greasy palm on an official torch on Sunday but I had to leave my function before it arrived. Wasn't for sale but a charity photo opportunity. That's better than those scheming sheisters out for a fast buck.
